I have a question: When I first joined this site, I would receive lots of emails reflecting the conversations going on between the wonderful artists community of LMM. However, in past months, I have seen nothing. Have I hit some random button to block things, or are there no conversations going on anymore? Please advise, I loved watching the discourse and being made aware of what others are up to. Thanks! Patti :)

Comment by Diana on February 25, 2012 at 6:48am Yes, we need some EXCITEMENT here!!! We have ebbs and flows, ups and downs. Keep posting your work! join in the painting a day group ! take some photos for the photo challenge! I know a lot of folks are waiting for gary's plexi course! I've had a few rough weeks too -- one of my best friends discovered that she has cancer so we went to Houston- to the best cancer hospital in the world - MD Anderson - and that took a chunk of time.... but it all ended really well, considering. I have two challenges that i've been working on and this will spur me to post one next week!
Comment by Greef on February 24, 2012 at 7:24pm I hear what everyone is saying and I have to say the site has slowed down in terms of participation and activity.
As you are all aware I have had some major life changing events in my life over the last 5 months so I appologise for my absence and lack of involvement.
Running an online community like this does take a lot of time and dedication and part of the reason for having group leaders was to help spread out the work load and to provide more areas of interest to mixed media artists.
Now that I have relocated to Melbourne and am getting settled I will start to be around more to support and encourage people as much as I can :)
Patti I appreciate you writing this blog and bringing it up because it shows me that you care about the site. It only takes a small group of dedicated people to change the world and it can happen again on LMM!
Over the years there has been some really dedicated LMMers who have been here during the slow times to keep things ticking over and without them (you included Patti) LMM would not have made it this far!So thankyou :)
Please know that i will be around to encourage people to participate, to share their art and their ideas :)
Comment by Danielle Evans on February 23, 2012 at 9:26pm Yes it is a shame that the site has gone a little sleepy since the summer. You'd think that the site would be a strong as it's members but it is true that we all came here because of Gary.
I personally don't blame Gary for being a little busy. It must have been hard for him dealing with the break up of his marriage. He has been so secluded in his Norwegian wood for so long who can blame him for enjoying being with PEOPLE again. I do wish he'd pop in a bit more often as he promised but that's life.
I still think the site has something to offer if people would get involved. I think it is about time we had a painting challenge again. They were so popular. Anyone could join in. Not EVERYONE is interested in assemblage, not EVERYONE is interested in encaustics, not EVERYONE is interested in photgraphy, but let's face it EVERYONE here LOVES to paint.
It may be a little difficult to get things going again. As i write there is only me and Mitsi online. Last week I logged on and there was only me. At the site's peak there were more than 30 of us online at one time.
I do believe we need to pull together and rally to keep the site going.
How about some of us getting together Saturday 6pm GMT in the chat room? I still get messages and emails from the friends I have made on LMM. There is activity but perhaps now it is done more behind the scenes than before?
Gary needs to do what he needs to do for the time being. He will be back but I hope it won't be too long.
No Patty, you didn't hit the wrong button, the side has gone dead silent for months due to Gary's absence and a group can't exist without a leader,i'm afraid. No idea where others are gone off to or if they are still around waiting, hiding or holding out but i feel like we are only a handful trying to keep this side alive but it won't be possible for a long time! Hope to see Gary back soon to push people along to be more active or LMM will disappear which would be really sad! I personally don't feel like joining another side as this is home for me, it's the only side i know and liked right away,so tell the boss,we are waiting for him!!!!!

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.
And this is the completed screen ready for printing. I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
