So, we went to Walmart looking for some paint.  As we came out of the store, I noticed what I thought was a glass lens on the ground - all scratched up - I said, HMMMMMMM, I could maybe use that for a collage.

But I past it by, then a few steps later, there were the lensless glass frames all pink and sparkly with only one ear piece smashed to a flatness that was perfect for mounting on a canvas.

So I picked up the wonky frames and went back and picked up the lens.  A few more steps and there was the other lens all scratched up - intact.  I picked it up.

Right before I arrived at my car - there was the other ear piece pink and sparkly and smashed flat as a pancake.  I giggled and picked it up.  I had the whole package - unexpected free collage items.

My husband, waiting and watching all this from the car, asked me if I was done cleaning up the Walmart parking lot.

It's just the way I am wired.

I do this all the time and a few years ago I heard from someone I'd known in elementary school and she recalled how I would always stop on the walk to school to show her a special leaf or a fantastic piece of glass.  I think we're born this way!

Bronwyn, sounds like he needs a distraction!!  And leaving behind a sculpture - how sad!!  Great name though!!!

My son and I dissected a printer once and then tried to make a sculpture out of the parts. This was just before we left Darwin, so we had to leave it behind in the end. We were going to name it "Dude, what did you do to my printer?"

Nope! LOL I never get that lucky. My husband always comes home with something for me that he found or some collegue threw away but if we're out and I see something on the ground he won't let me pick it up!

Lea, ahhhh - a printer to dissect!  Printers can be so frustrating!!  Good idea!

So funny...All of our partners must think the same.  Our printer just recently packed it in and my husband was shocked when I told him to just take it outside and throw it on the ground to smash it up (because he was throwing it away). One, to get out his frustrations because it seems we always have to fix something before we can do something these days with technology and two, so I could gather any bits and pieces from the inside of it to use! ...win win!!

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
