Art - Miniture Figures - Geeks and Slippers.

I'm a geek – I admit it. I'm into weird things, I devour sci fi and fantasy books like no bodies business. I average around 4 good 700 or so paged books a week. I love my Horror and Manga and of course I married another geek who's a Gamer. Not a computer Gamer nooooo. I married a traditional Table Top Gamer. The type that started out playing Dungeons and Dragons and evolved. It's a sub culture and like most geek sub cultures they take it rather seriously. I gave it a go – I loved the creation part – the building of worlds, stories and characters, all the parts that appealed to the wanna be writer in me - but the play part didn't do it for me. So as an artist and a wife that wanted to be involved in an important part of her husbands existence, I thought I'd give Miniature Figures a go.

That’s right those 1n half inch lil miniature, people, monsters, dragons, wizards, beasties etc that Gamers do so love to use as characters. I ended up buying a ton of Lead (figures) over the years, but did very little painting lol. A person never actually ends up painting all their figures they just collect more and more lead. Life got in the way for ages and the lead got put away

Anyway I haven't been able to get my head around the art thing for a while, painting and drawing are somewhat blocked at the moment – so I thought I would give the miniatures ago. It's interesting to work so small. It's relaxing and I have to say once you start rather addictive. Here are a few works in progress. Non are finished, but some closer then others.

I'm working on the Mad Priest from my Call of Cthulhu set at the moment and I'm liking the way he is coming along. I'm trying a different style. It's a Horror genre setting so I'm not looking for clean lines and colours, I'm looking for pasty ill looking fellahs who have come in contact with a being whose mere existence sends them stark raving loony.I've gradualy collected a decent array of Call of Cthulhu figures - it's mostly set in the late 1800s early 1900's (or if yer a die hard fan 1920s) so there are some interesting characters to paint - Most going Mad of course but thats what makes it Fun Huh. The game is based on H.P.Lovecrafts short story The Call of Cthulhu and the general Cthulhu Mythos

If you are interseted enough in the story and don't know it but do like clasic Horror then you will find the PDF here - lovecrafthother06cthulhu.pdf , it's a short story. I do so love Cthulhu - I have a couple of Plush Cthulhu toys that Mark bought me for varous Valintine Day Pressies lol and a set of Slippers. lol if you are curious just google Cthulhu Plush and you will see the green little guy and the slippers. See I told you I was a geek and now you all know me way to well.

Jay lol - out of everyone I just Knew you would be a gamer. I have a few Warhammer figures - I dun play but it's cool to use figures for other games. Mark has built his own system and has started using that - it's proving very popular as it fits pretty much any genre of game. You should post some of your Minitures then I wont be the only Miniture Geek! lol

Joan - you are right - it is just another canvas and it is still Art - In the future I think I would like to sculpt my own figures - that would be coolsum.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
