I Stumbled apon this interesting article:
It got me to thinking about the 'What do you consider not to be art?' discussion (Piss Christ) and how a few of us are 'pushed' away from what we would really like to create because of the culture that we live in.
I can see how some art can be offensive and there are lines which should not be crossed but why are people so threatened by this kind of art if they are secure in their beliefs?
Cruz' work has been labelled NOT ART.
"During the hearing, CCP officials said that they had also been shocked by Cruz’ use of imagery that could be interpreted as sacrilegious and disrespectful of Jesus Christ.
CCP president Raul Sunico said that "as a Catholic," he was offended by the work, which included a picture of Jesus with a wooden ashtray shaped like a penis stuck to it."
I think that it's a shame that his exhibition was closed down and that CCP board members have been asked to resign for allowing this exhibition to open.
If you find it so offensive and blasphemous, then don't look at it and let others decide for themselves what they think of it. The worst that will happen is that they will actually like it!

Comment by Nicole Umina on August 18, 2011 at 1:11am That's disgusting - who has the right to say it's not art. I don't give a fig of something is offensive, if I find something offensive i just choose to dismiss it from my thoughts, no one has the right to dismiss it from others. I agree with jay, if its not child porn, things that insight physical non consentual pain or harm or the death or killing of living creatures for the sake of that art - then what the hell. If religous sentiment goes back to censoring art because people find it offensive then we are devolving worse then i thought.
Censorship really pisses me off - I recently went to the band book exibition here in Edinburgh and I was disgusted by the books on the lists - especialy the childrens books and most of them band because of religous challenges. Harry Potter - The Dark Materials (which is at least obvious in it's challenging of religon) - Hell even A Wrinkle in Time wtf? what on earth was wrong with A Wrinkle in Time - and sadly most of the books we saw were band in America and Catholic Ireland. I'm tired of thinking artists have to dumb down their thinking for the small minded bigitory of the church, people and religions. Art and Writings are open to all, the state or laws shouldn't goven what is seen or what isn't. Hell i find the Bible Offensive but you don't see me preaching that it should go on a band list - people should have control over what they want to see learn and write. Whats life worth if we aren't alowed to challenge perceptoions and thinkings - The human race is devolving. We are dumbing down our children. pisses me off lol.

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.
And this is the completed screen ready for printing. I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
