Wanna play a game??

Here's a bit of fun for us to do.

I've started this little 4X6" painting and the object of the game is for you to finish the painting creating your own weird animals or monsters

I started out by masking off some areas with masking fluid (using my thumb and a stick) and added watercolour and salt.

Now it's over to you!!

Print this image onto, preferably hot press watercolour paper and see…

"Équinoxe de l'Automne" (an albino faerie painting)

"Équinoxe de l'Automne" is finished with watercolour and graphite pencil.

She and I have had several long conversations over the last few weeks, and it seems she finds my questions impertinent, and always replies with "None of your business." So, that being that, the contents of her little box are…

Brave but Messy!

I'm so ready to play with some gooey techniques!

I have a few canvases that need some work. I think I'll be trying my own bubble technique in a much larger format than in the past... this new piece is 4'x5' and a little intimidating!

Gonna get messy up in here!

Acrylic painting with touch of mixed media...

At around 4ft by 5 ft, this is a fairly large picture for me, getting up towards the top end of my size range for paintings. The frame is a virtual frame,  but so mething like what I would like to use for this painting.

Because of the resolution restictions of the LMM website, it…

My first Christmas Bazzar!

I brought my handmade bags, Sleepy peepers ( eye masks) pencil holders, and a few of my paintings and mixed media work! I spoke to a lot of lovely folk about my work and it was really good to talk to other creative people . Eric helped me set up, and sell. They liked my work, they actually bought. To think I was so nervous before hand, it was a great experience. The only downer...my camera played up so no photo's! never mind, next time!

Donating Art for a good cause

I donated this painting for a gala last night held to honor a friend who died at an all too early age of 36 years old from brain cancer. It benefits brain tumor research for princess margaret hospital in toronto. My painting sold and went to a good home. My question is how do you feel about donating art? I had an instructor who said it devalues your work because you never get much money at these events and other people that have paid full price at your gallery or website feel, well, a bit…

3 Dictionary Collages

Recently, I did three mixed media collages, using pages from an old English dictionary.

This is the first time I've used dictionary pages in artworks, and I must say, I love it! In the past, I have hand-written word deffinitions into collages, but being able to rip-and-snip right from the book was a fun and fascinating process.

I chose some… Continue

There are so many on this site that are into the philosophy of recycle, reuse and repurpose, that I thought some would be interested in this blog I found this morning:

Reinvention

Now that I have an idea of what the insurance company is going to give me for my art supplies, I've tried to take stock of myself as an artist. I had, of course, over the years accumulated an enormous amount of art and craft supplies as I moved from medium to medium. My journey eventually led me to the world of mixed media and assemblage. Once there, however, I have found myself gravitating to more specific types of assemblages and collage. I now have a unique opportunity to…

Open Blog to Gary

I read your weekly post every time with the anticipation of getting insight from a person willing to take risks. As I said before, I don't take enough myself.

This weekly post, however, you brought a new aspect - time and effort. It made me think of all the work you put into this work site - how I always look forward to seeing your techniques and videos (love the cows). I realized how much of yourself you give and still have room for your art.

I completely understand your… Continue

Navigating the Online World

I'm so excited and so overwhelmed by the ability to reach out and connect with other artists who share my interests. Since leaving my job and starting up an online business I have entered the world of Facebook, Etsy, Lovin Mixed Media, my own Website, and gmail. I also have a Blog on Blogger that I have managed for two years. The ability to connect everything and make it one smooth system, however, eludes me.

I can't even figure out how to respond to the…

all that exists roars into flame

...all that exists

Roars into flame, the tortured fragments rush away from each

other into all the sky, new universes

Jewel the black breast of night; and far off the outer nebulae

like charging spearmen again

Invade emptiness.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
