How Art Works

It may have taken me years to figure this part out, but art is very much rooted to the advantaged qualities of the artist (whether that be painting, singing, drawing, dancing, sculpting, photographing, etc). So.....what the heck does that mean? Well, put it this way - if you're a veteran, handicapped, mentally ill, autistic, or possess any traits that make you stand out from the crowd, then consider embracing these traits in your artwork. This may sound strange and might even be offensive to…

NEVER make tuna salad in a hurry!

Well...here is the latest in my twisted life. To those who don't know me,I pop in once in awhile here to make a smile or even some laughter. (That's Art right?) Anyhow, I've had some really terrible nights of sleeping and the before bed challenge was just that...a challenge! In the last month I have had X-rays and bloodwork to rule out Leukemia and to ensure my white count is normal. It was! Yip Pee!! I've been having some major back & hip problems which has left me only being able to do…

Paranormal Experiences

I have always been curious how many people have encountered something paranormal in their lifetime. I tend to scare the crap out of my friends when I share my experiences and something tells me I've seen more than they have. Growing up, I was skeptical about spirits, ghosts, and even Santa, but was I ever wrong! With the exception of Santa, of course. It all began when my parents purchased their first town house which our family still lives in till this day. One particular evening, my…

Renewing My Art Enthusiasm

Recently started life drawing classes which has given me a renewed enthusiasm for art. We meet in the gallery every Monday and have a model who is very good at the poses and keeping still. We have nine participants and are really enjoying the chance to use a live model. It is so different drawing from life and the nude is so much more fun than still life objects!

Also this week-end I did an Acrylic Art Workshop here in Cooktown titled 'Values in Pencil and Paint' by local Artist Ross… Continue

THE CUP IS ALREADY BROKEN

Gary's video about his artist's cup reminded me of the documentary I watched last Monday on Netflix. "THE BUDDHA The Story of Siddhartha" (2010 by Director David Grubin) I have read the book, "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse several times during my life. The book belonged to my mother and it was one of her favorites. The film depicts the life of Buddha and his…

Joe goofing off in the California sunset

I looked at the last entry - so much has happened since our arrival - the good, the bad and the ugly. We stayed with Mike's sister. Diane and her husband, Bill while we were looking for a house.

After many many… Continue

I suddenly realized....

I am bored to tears with the art quilt list I am on. This realization has been a chain reaction for me. I think it took someone asking why anyone who is not a quilter would be on an art quilting list and also finding a new place like this one where people from all artistic backgrounds are living and breathing their love for art out loud more than they are promoting their art (and books and news clips, etc) to figure this out. Personally I don't see a need to defend my time on a quilting list,… Continue

Moving and Stuff

I've sold my house in New Mexico - after a long time on the market. Living in a house you have to keep showroom sparkly for several years is a nightmare for an artist like me. I like to see things - like with my mixed media work - I like to pick and choose from a host… Continue

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
