Wanna play a game??

Here's a bit of fun for us to do.

I've started this little 4X6" painting and the object of the game is for you to finish the painting creating your own weird animals or monsters

I started out by masking off some areas with masking fluid (using my thumb and a stick) and added watercolour and salt.

Now it's over to you!!

Print this image onto, preferably hot press watercolour paper and see…

Addicted to Soft Pastel

Lately, I have been using soft pastel instead of charcoal or graphite for drawing. Every nude model drawing I create has to be on stained coffee Stonehenge and coloured soft pastel. What I find strange is that I never truly liked drawing. I am more of a painting kind of person...but there's something about chalk pastel. I've been looking into Edgar Degas for clues, but found nothing. I just don't get it! Give me a pencil and I'll never get the drawing done. Throw some soft pastel, however,…

Glasses of Glaucoma Drops

After they put the drops to dilate my eyes, they gave me these glasses to wear. Just wanted to document with art.

"THE SWEETEST FREAK OF ALL" I fell in love with this freak when I saw Tod Browning's 1932 film, "Freaks".

Day 26 of 30 DAYS OF DRAWING

One of four or five 2-5 minutes sketches I did while working for my 100 year old doctor today. You can see the others on my facebook page if you're interested. Didn't have time for a real drawing but I figured these were good fast practice anyway. I call them "Waiting For Dr G." …

Day 15 of 30 DAYS OF DRAWING

Another drawing where I just let my hand do whatever it wanted. Weird elongated fingers are happening. I just let it flow. I am not the one in control of the drawing, or so it seems that way.…

DAY 9 OF 30 DAYS OF DRAWING

I was inspired by a real woman who has two peg legs and she is missing a hand. I don't know what happened to her but I am trying to find out who she is. I decided to turn her into a super hero. (A Work In Progress) You can see her in this video. If you know who she is, please let me know.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mr7t3jEDcrw&feature=share…

Religious Science Fiction Art

It started out as a bit of a lark. I was just being funny to amuse myself.  But the first one was so well received that I did another and then a third. I've been taking Science Fiction characters and plugging them into religious art...

Like I said, the first one was a bit of a lark so I…

Renewing My Art Enthusiasm

Recently started life drawing classes which has given me a renewed enthusiasm for art. We meet in the gallery every Monday and have a model who is very good at the poses and keeping still. We have nine participants and are really enjoying the chance to use a live model. It is so different drawing from life and the nude is so much more fun than still life objects!

Also this week-end I did an Acrylic Art Workshop here in Cooktown titled 'Values in Pencil and Paint' by local Artist Ross… Continue

Marie & Polka illustrations (Experimentation is awesomeness in action!)

Lately, I've been experimenting with style -- trying new approaches to my illustrative drawings, and discovering new ways of seeing and creating images.

Typically, I'm really hung up on form and I strive for a certain degree of realism in my work (the devil's in the details, always!) But I'm also drawn towards minimalism, and I love the mixture of subtle dimention and flat-pattern that's found in traditional Japanese paintings & woodblock prints...

So, with all… Continue

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
