Help with some Direction on this piece
Below is a piece that is 42" wide by 22" long. It has been dye painted and now stitched on the darker circles to reflect what I call solar Flares. The insides of the dark circles are stitched with spirals. So this is where I am at..
Next Steps:
Thoughts are to proceed in this way.
1) Use a stencil to create Large X's on this piece in Gesso. Then I can go back into the work using oil paints, watercolors, acrylics etc to add more…

Hello everyone!
Hope you all had a fab Christmas and are looking forward to 2011 - I know I am :)
I took a leave of absence for a while after my aunt passed away in the Autumn, mainly to reflect and regroup, and as always when the Universe takes something away, she tends to give something back. So.... I finally found an artists' collective and I took part in my first ever Artists Open House. Yay! It was quite an experience and lots of hard work, but really worth it. I…

with these layers.....
so we have these layers within us. stay with me here....lots of them. this is what we are made up of, i believe. layer upon layer upon layer.
memories, life experiences, personal dreams, hopes..
our individual fears, hurts, walls (one of personal favorites)
our connections, our relationships, wants, desires
our needs,
our raw emotions....
it isn't until we begin the shedding process, of peeling each of these individual layers back, that we really
begin to…

Over the weekend I watched 2 of BBC's drama documentaries. I thoroughly enjoyed both and so wanted to share it here for those interested.
1) Leonardo - the life and work of the greatest figures of Renaissance
2) The Divine Michelangelo
DaVinci's life is well portrayed in the video. What I liked best in the video is that they've taken some of Davinci's original designs from his ancient journals and made working models to verify if they hold water. Well, they…

ArtRage 2
Nothing since Caesar 3 has cost me more time in front of a computer screen.
Forrest Green (WIP) Digital image constructed in ArtRage2 using oils, palette knife and pen (stylus and tablet) Dec 2010.
Works best with a tablet and stylus, but the palette knife and pen are easily…

What a year!
It's Xmas Day and I'm already looking back. I made leaping strides in my art this year. I tried new approaches, deviated from my small controlled pen and ink sketches and commented on other artists' works. Now it sounds like commenting should not be counted as an art achievement, but it is for me. This year, I've broadened my art outlook to get beyond myself. I criticize my work, sometimes even before I do it! I know that sound insane and childish - my inner demons get the better of…

Gift
I've had some ideas in my head about this painting all month long, and finally, I had a moment to sit down and release it. After two days of intense painting, it's finished at last!
I have a fascination with ambinism, and I'd like to make more albino faeries (with animal friends) in the new…

Once in a while you get this foreboding experience and you think, what if. I had this experience this weekend as I kept getting error messages server not found, no matter what site I clicked on. Then the hubby says did you reset the modem... dugh, that fixed it.
What if the world internet system did fail and global meltdown occured? Could you still do your banking, keep in touch with family, work to make a living.
That is a scarry thought, just wondering what you all…

A little about me...
Continuing on a self-imposed promise to blog consistently, I thought I might pick up on what I began in the "Who are you?" newbies. Lifted most, trimmed some & expanded on lots....This is me: Darwin Sy Antipolo.
I'm a Filipino, but have been based in sunnier Singapore(SG) for a good few years now. An industrial Engineer by training but got into sales/marketing roles of technology/internet services and solution. The boring business blahs are in my Linkedin…

Did I really have to paint every brick?
I was chatting with some LMM artists this morning Brisbane time and one of them asked what I was working on at the moment. I told them I was about to start on a large canvas (5 feet square) which would be a companion painting to one I had finished some years earlier.
The earlier picture took me a long time to finish (over a year) but the beauty of it for me is that it is the kind of picture that I can work on a little bit at a time. I didn’t have to make too many more creative…

My First Art and craft Market
Hi everyone, just thought i'd share my first experience at my first art and craft market. Before i go on i must apologise for the numerous lower case 'i's". My cat decided to sleep on my keyboard and break my shift key.
Anyway,i decided earlier this year to take the step and participate in a market, to see if any of the art work i had created would sell. it took me forever to pluck up the courage to actually apply, but eventually did and was given a spot for the 19th December…

ATC/ACEO as Christmas presents
I placed some samples of ATCs I've managed to do over a weekend in my album. Here are some more.
It was really intended as a Christmas/ Holiday present for most of my colleagues at work.
These babies went out today... Individually packed and I sneaked in to their individual…

Holiday time
Baking with the grandkids today. They will do the decorating of the cookies. We have sprinkles, food coloring, paint brushes and a happy excited attitude. The kids will probably last about 10 - 15 minutes and get bored so we have a backup plan. Movies!!!
Art is on the back burner this week too much wrapping and tag making to do. Yesterday I got caught by someone coming to look at my glass work in my jammies at 1:30 in the afternnon. At least they were my festive…

coming undone.
so we build walls to keep people out and keep our Selves safe, right?
we build these walls from all those ugly damaging hurts of our past.
from sticks and stones
from emotional immaturity
from raw, gaping wounds
from disillusioned realities
from words that cut like knives

Films from Japan: Y.Nara & Y.Kusama
For two weekends now, the Singapore Art Museum@8Q showed several films from Japan. Two of the must watch for me were: "Travelling with Yoshitomo Nara" and "Yayoi Kusama: I love me". They represent two of the finest contemporary/ avant garde artists (incidentally from Japan).
Yoshitomo Nara > Google images…

Have you seen this film, directed by Banksy? It's about freelance filmmaker, Thierry Guetta and the profound journey with a twist, once he met the British street artist, Banksy. Very cool film and just goes to show, you never know where your creativity will take you. An art film I highly recommend.

This is the story of the relationship between a mother and her youngest son. The son had become addicted to drugs and alcohol. His behaviour and thoughts became more and more erratic, like the flight of the butterfly. As each day passed he became so absorbed in his own world and his own wants that he was oblivious to the heartache he was causing his family and the effect his life choices were having on them. They loved him and wanted better things for him than the life he had…

Acrylic painting with touch of mixed media...
At around 4ft by 5 ft, this is a fairly large picture for me, getting up towards the top end of my size range for paintings. The frame is a virtual frame, but so
mething like what I would like to use for this painting.
Because of the resolution restictions of the LMM website, it…

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.
And this is the completed screen ready for printing. I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
