Just a few shots I was playing around with different pieces of glass, trying to see what if, anything, I could get that was interesting. I found that I was able to recreate many of the effects available through Photo Booth on iMac, with different shaped glass pieces.…

These are not the photo's I had in mind for this challenge, but the opportunity arose, so I took advantage of it. As many of you know, I have had bronchitis since Nov. 1st. I plan to put the project I had in mind together this week, but I just wanted to post a few for the challenge before it was actually over.…

Happy Holidays to everyone! Just wanted to pass along the almost unbelievable news...good news....maybe time to say "Yes, Virginia....there IS a Santa Clause"....'cause he just showed up at my house with Journal #2.
No kidding. I'm so thrilled! I had totally given up on it, as had the fine people of the Canadian Post. Not sure where it's been, but it's safe in my hands now. It's so gorgeous. It's wonderful that it's been found at last. I will expeditiously complete the next…

Some months ago, a member here started a discussion "Art Fail" (was it Suzette?) and I posted this ridiculous thing from my journal:
But since I got some really great suggestions on how to improve it, I decided that I would give it a chance "later." About a month ago I messed…

I finally managed to log into AFTH today after struggling with the computer and browser and what have you. To top it the year end blues!
I've had a very difficult year both personally and professionally and it wasn't just the recession. So I told myself that this year I'm going to remember only the happy things that have made the dark days feel lighter. Of those things, first of all, stumbling upon Gary's videos on YT was one of the best. Then finding this ningy treasure trove of art,…

I was recently engaged in a conversation about how it seems painting is dieing out, and it got me to thinking.
I don't think painting is dead in the art world. It might seem that way with galleries and the art community as a whole looking for that next big thing ... but it's still one of the most abundant forms of art out there. It's definantly a lot more specialized and diverse, but not dead. Fundamentals don't die for fads.
Besides, painting won't die out for one simple…

Joe goofing off in the California sunset
I looked at the last entry - so much has happened since our arrival - the good, the bad and the ugly. We stayed with Mike's sister. Diane and her husband, Bill while we were looking for a house.
After many many…

Hello ... and thanks for the welcome from you all and comments on the photos. learning stuff already. Still thinking about this artist thing ... when does art become craft and vice versa ?
Frost melted here on Dartmoor, birdies out in force again, but still too icy to get out much.

Hey everyone! I am really excited to have become a member to this site today. The opportunities to learn and grow as an artist are endless on here. I've already gotten so much inspiration through looking through people's photos and watching their techniques. Everyone's work is so remarkable. I cannot wait to one day be as talented as you all are. Soon i hope to put up some pictures of my work and i hope you all will be able to give me some good advice and help me to improve. I hope you all have…

OK I'm rather over-excited about this ... I love art, creativity especially through textiles - but I'm really no expert, but here on this site I can be an artist. I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's work and experience, I need some confidence and inspiration, but first let's get Christmas out of the way ...

It always falls on a busy day of the year. It is the first time I have had snow on my birthday for years, it was almost normal when I was a child....so I felt like making a snow man ha ha...wish I had the snow is melting a bit today.
I just want to say Happy Birthday to all who have their birthday this time of year.
The days are getting longer now, minute by minute to spring...it was the shortest day yesterday and today we are on the upturn of the year. Happy Holidays to you…

My mother baked cookies at least a month before Christmas, they were stored in big old soup bowls, I assume because they had lids on them and Zip Lock bags had not reached Germany. Well, today I decided it would not be Christmas unless I baked some myself. I have to say that I suck at baking cookies, don't have a love for it nor the patience to read all those recipes. My daughter baked a ton for Thanksgiving, but with all the company they quickly vanished.
I called her up and asked…

Every year I have created my own Christmas cards. With the exception of a few I've made for card exchanges the past two years I've gone digital using an original watercolor as the subject. I'm still experimenting and dealing with a steep learning curve, but the process fascinates me. This year's video required three software programs to get the effect I wanted. I'm sure there is a high end pro program that would do it all, but my budget and possibly my PC makes that difficult to acquire. With…

G´day Maties!
Well I have arrived safe and sound in Melbourne after a mamoth 23 hour flight. We flew out of London Heathrow an hour late and the captain did say that we would make up time during the flight but for some reason he kept the brakes on and we still arrived later than anticipated. The flight was empty and i found myself having a spare seat on either side which was great so i kicked back and watched a couple of films and before i knew it we were touching down in Dubai.…

I recently took a wire art course and fell in love with the metals, especially copper
as it is so malleable. Although I am only at the experimental stage, I find working with the copper allows me to be creative and my efforts are really rewarding.
This “garden sculpture” is about 12inches across and is embellished with blue and turquoise glass beads and bobbles. The supplies I used are mostly recycled copper electrical wiring that I bought at a metal recycling plant by the…

And like everyone else life is interfering with art. I haven't done a thing in at least a month, company comes, company goes and more company comes and so it goes. Every year at this time my studio turns into a storage room, Christmas paper, boxes to be sent and a lot of crap. I'm now beginning to put things back in order, have some projects and other stuff to do. I'm buzzing along happy as a crab and what happens? The 4 year old laptop blows up and I am without. Not being patient I checked the…
