15 plus hours of processing and marinading

A friend of mine stopped by yesterday afternoon and after a lovely visit her parting words to me were… ” you just need to learn to be content.”  Now seeing as she is my BFF and has the uncanny ability to ALWAYS speak her mind with me the comment did NOT offend or insult me.  It did however inspire me.  So after about 15 plus hours of processing and marinading on this I have some thoughts…….

What does it really mean to be content?  Is this a subjective definition?  Does one really know…

Painting across Europe. Who else out there paints while traveling?

This is my 3rd trip this summer, and this time I am determined to make art while out of my studio.

Landed in London on the 21st, and purchased a small set of Winsor & Newton acrylics (set of 12, 20ml tubes), but no time to make art.

Next stop, Paris for one day, no time to make art.

Many sketches on the flight from Paris to Brussels, but no time to paint.

Spent 2 days in Brussels, but no time to paint.

Many sketches on the flight from Brussels…

Work in progress - The Well

Hey everyone,

I figured I should just put this up as a blog post since I am now now showing multiple pics of the same work at various stages of completion.

Here is another view of the first stage, which I previously posted.

And here it is in…

Successful meeting with the decission makers in Buin!

The meeting with the "Prime Minister" of the Major was a big success!!Thank to you all!! And to this very special major that is wishing to do the best for his people! (I mean, is a right wing politician who wants to build a memorial-paint a fantastic mural to the relatives of the 4 detainees-missing persons that the town had in 1973, after the violent coup of general Pinochet). I think we need more people like him. And like you, folks!

Is it a coincidence that this is the only town in…

Art it ain’t, says National Artist Jose

I Stumbled apon this interesting article:

Poleteismo

 Art in sacrilege

It got me to thinking about the 'What do you consider not to be art?' discussion (Piss Christ) and how a few of us are 'pushed' away from what we would really like…

I want to gather some nice people and use our hands, not the revolution, by now.

There is a protest wave right now in my country, Chile, started by students and ecologists, with hunger strikes, raids and riots (left-liberal  oriented, as usual). I'm not naive about all what have been written and done about the art-politics axis, and I simpathize with some groups as neoism, but I'm wishing to be able to gather youngs around a workshop, or somehow generate or organize a venue to bring the healing, fun, inspirational power of art praxis rather than "make consciousness"…

More art than you can shake a stick (or paint brush) at.

Hey everyone,

Below is a link to the website of what is MOMA's version of a P.S.1 open studio's tour. I haven't had a chance to look at a ton of the artists work yet, but there sure are a lot of them, and this is only for new york city. Each link takes you to an artists page, with bio, studio shots, pictures of their work and a link to the artists website (if they have one). Please feel free to chime in and let me know what artists you found interesting.

Surfing the web as one does - you know in those most important times between so called creative bursts, I came across this nifty little site that has some nice information for artist esp those starting out and wanting to get a little organised. yes, my house is a living organism

I have decided I would clear a few things up……”uh oh” you say.  Well, my last post (well two posts ago if you want to be technical) really created quite a buzz.  This is GOOD.  Mission accomplished.  But, I do think some clarification may be helpful.

According to Mirriam-Webster, the simplest definition (I used the children’s version) of…

Are you an “Outsider” or an “Insider” artist? Or maybe both?

It is sort of like asking if your belly button is an “innie” or an “outie”, isn’t it? Does it matter to you? Does it hurt you or help you? Does anyone really care? I’m not sure. I’d love to know what you all think.

It has become quite popular to be considered an “Outsider” artist.

From what I know, an “Outsider” artist is an artist with no formal education. (It also sounds little rebellious and cool I think, like alternative music)

So, by this definition,…

I was in line at a register the other day

I was in line at a register the other day at the local art supply store and I overheard a conversation behind me.  There was a chick with a cart full of canvases of varying sizes and the gentleman in front of her asked her if she was an artist.  She said yes, she has a show coming up in October at a local gallery blah blah blah.  At one point the conversation turned to jobs and making a living and the such.  (it was a really long line.)  So, i found it quite interesting when she told this…

Again...Long time no play..

One of the hardest things about studying art academically is the lack of time to actually create...especially in the first year.

This has been hard for me...but, I know I have a lot to look forward to..and cant wait to soak up what im learning.

The other thing that is fabulous though, (about studying)..is…

New goodies. Who here has worked with fluorescent paint?

I know I'm weird, but I love to take pictures of my new stuff whenever I pick up art supplies. I guess I like to document how nice they look before they are incorporated into the art making process. They will never look this nice again :-)

I've never used the Alien spray cans and I have never used Fluorescent paint. Should be interesting.…

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
