The End of a Painting Doesn't Necessarily Relate to the Beginning

I started out with one painting and ended up with another. ;) I'm cool with that - I love the process. It's pretty much the whole journey not the destination thing, I guess. The prime objective with this painting was for me to finally nail ink jet transfers, which have taken me sooooo long to master. (I'm still not sure that I'm quite there yet, but I love getting my hands messy.) Anyway, the transfer part was a total bust and I ended up with transparency paper, the image still robustly intact,… Continue

Plaster Play

I've made a few tiles in the last couple of weeks... all unfinished, but I thought I'd post a few pics of what I have come up with so far...

The first couple were a nice skinny standard rectangle... molded in a cardboard pastel box.

Then, fossicking around the cupboards for suitable molds. I settled on a Chinese takeaway… Continue

The Nerve!!!!

A gallery that I show in is closing down due to the economic times. Bummer!!!!!! The owner emailed all the artists saying that she will be opening an E-Gallery instead and that we could still show with her through that. Only she is raising her commission from 40% to 45%. No Thank You!!!! Can't believe she would have the nerve to ask for more money when she is offering less as a gallery. Oh well, this will motivate me to approach some other galleries. There is one in particular I have had in… Continue

THE CUP IS ALREADY BROKEN

Gary's video about his artist's cup reminded me of the documentary I watched last Monday on Netflix. "THE BUDDHA The Story of Siddhartha" (2010 by Director David Grubin) I have read the book, "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse several times during my life. The book belonged to my mother and it was one of her favorites. The film depicts the life of Buddha and his…

Summertime Update

As the days begin to get shorter once again, I really try to enjoy every speck of summer thats left. It hasent been an exciting summer this year, we didnt do the traveling or the camping or the big repairs we talked about. We never saw the fireworks or the fair, didnt even dangle my feet in the lake, Art Festival passed and I never showed my face, Parties and boat rides and picnics all went as planned without us....

Please dont take this the wrong way lol, I really wanted to…

The Octopus of Unknowing

When I say "darkness", I mean a privation of knowing, just as whatever you do not know or have forgotten is dark to you, because you do not see it with your spiritual eyes. For this reason, that which is between you and your God is termed an Octopus of Unknowing.

I drew this in Photoshop. The background is, in part, a photo of my garage floor.

The text comes from an anonymous work of…

Work of Art - from Bravo to Boooooo!

I have to admit, having watched all seven available episodes of "Work of Art", I am left with nothing but shame. Being a self-taught artist who continues to give a damn about Visual Arts and contributes to his surrounding environment by offering free workshops, I have learned quite a bit! Surely enough, I have far more to learn but that's the problem about this show! It's so dumb down! Where's the process, the early morning work, etc?! Don't give the public what they want to see! You'll just… Continue

initial sketching of my first piece in my Stations of the Cross/Passion Series

Since my last post I have been doing tons of research on this topic.. while thrilling to me.. I have learned quickly it can be a turn off for some people but alas. I'm treading through. I've decided to start sketching with watercolors because my work is so layered in dye's and paints on fabric, the watercolors will give me the translucence that I will achieve in fabric.. so I think this is a smart way for me to work through some ideas before I start actually working with the real…

MY MINI VACATION + BOTTLE ART

Hi people!

I've been away at my daughter's house in the country for a week. It felt really good to get out of the city for a while. I made a video of a favorite highlight from my trip and posted it on YouTube (as it's really not an art video per say). But if you're interested in a little snippet from my mini vacation, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1E2lXSEXyVM

TREAT YOUR ART LIKE IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM

Alyson Stanfield wrote a post about how we should treat our art. I admit, I am like a step mother to my art :( and that article made me think about it and what I can do to change my attitude. When I paint the piece it is with enthusiasm and love. Then, sometimes I enjoy in the finished art by putting it on the wall, but most of the time I just put it on the floor and cover it with clothing or in a box to keep it safe from dust till it is sold. I know… Continue

My recent adventures...

I have'nt been very active on this site for about a month now I think, although it feels a lot longer. No doubt I have missed you guys a lot during this time. I changed my day job recently and am just getting used to the new environment and new people. I am not very good with changes, but sometimes change cannot be put off endlessly which I think is what I was trying to do. Not any more. Thankfully art is helping me get through this sticky…

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
