Figurative Painting

It has been quite a number of years since I tackled painting/drawing nudes. I guess the main reason for my lack of figure work has been due to the difficulty of getting to a life drawing class or hiring a model. Living in the middle of nowhere does limit one's options.

Yesterday a friend came over to visit and she was looking through my folio, when she came across a couple of my figure drawings. She was like 'wow you need to do more of these people would love them.' Now not just two…

Artful Musings

My wonderful son is working on a landscaping crew this summer.  They are responsible for clearing vacant and abandoned lots in a rather large city near us.  Within a week of beginning this job, my son had every member of the landscaping  crew (including the owner) picking up…

ANATA GALLERY - Anyone else receive an e-mail?

To my surprise, one of the "staff" members from Anata Gallery reviewed my portfolio and are inviting me to participate in their next exhibition. Question is, what portfolio were they reviewing? My website is down and I only have a small portion of my work on Loving Mixed Media, Deviant Art, and Sheezy Art. How did they even get my e-mail??? Anyone else receive this invitation lately?

Regards,

Yevgeny

What does it take...

I had initially posted this on my personal blog. Re-posting it here since it might strike a chord with artists here at LMM who might be doing similar work.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What does it take to cheer someone up? And what if the person you are trying to cheer up was terminally ill? What would one say, would could one possibly do to wipe those tears and…

Blogging Newbie

Lately in the last few weeks I've learning about the world of blogging. I'm having trouble with keeping up with my blogs. I'm hoping to get people to my blogs and learn more about the monetizing part. But i also like the fact blogging lets you be creative and it's a way of bettering you're writing skills. One of my newer blogs I've started called the crazytopten.wordpress.com is where i make up list of top ten. For example My top ten favorite books, i list my top ten and then post. I also…

the slaying and removal of all that seeks my creative demise

between the four day family camping trip, a shit load of data entry, and my newest creation (which you are just gonna have to wait for) i haven’t had my hands in yellow, blue or red in well over a week.  this, i promise, does not bode well for those near and dear to me.  i am, however, beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  the well known theory, “there just isn’t enough time in the day” has never had…

Non-Visible Museum

A friend at work sent me this link:  http://www.nonvisiblemuseum.com/

Maybe this is just a huge con, but the concept really appeals to me.  After all, narrative is a form of art in and of itself.  I have always been very staunchly for the power of imagination and developing your abiblity to visualize.  I would much rather read a book and develop my own vision of the author's world than see a film…

Found Petroglyph (Update)

Some of you are still skeptical about the stone carving I found. Frankly, I'm on the same boat. However, after washing the rock I found several new clues which seem to point to the fact that some form of intelligence made the markings. Let's start with the "reindeer". Here's a photo comparison (credits go to Ed Book Photo).…

I Found A Time Capsule

I found this time capsule around March of 2011 while playing Bingo scratch tickets. Inside is an assortment of jewelry and a rather bizarre valuable - fake eye lashes. I felt it was wrong to keep, so I hid it so well that I couldn't find it myself for the past four months. This is the last time I will see it since I buried it in hope of preservation so that future generations can also do a little treasure hunting. I still wonder who it belonged to and why jewelry? In any case, enjoy the…

More LMMers meet IRL!!

I may not blog often but when I do I blog BIG!!

I just have to say what a great holiday I have just had.  Meeting up with 4 LMMers, going to numerous galleries, studios and workshops, there was never a dull moment.  I even got to roll up my sleeves and get waxy.  Not sunburns but shellace burns were the icing on the cake for me.

It took some time for me to get used to the idea of going back home to Canada for a visit.  I wanted to go home and see my family, but alas…

Linocut print making

Ok so I got these cool linoleum blocks for carving out my own image to use in the process of making a Linocut print. Now what?...well it looks like I also need carving tools lol. Then I need to research the best inks to use and the best paper. Why am I interested in doing this? Because its a different medium and well duhhh this is a mixed media group. I know I know but I am a painter (and a pretty good one I say wink wink) but in between pieces that take me weeks to complete I just can't…

Found Rock Petroglyph

Unless I have completely gone insane, I am quite certain that the marks on the rock were carved by hand. The question is: were these marks made recently or do they travel back many centuries? By the way...I took the rock with me. I did some imagery searching online and came across a reindeer petroglyph that looks like the one on this rock. Take a look at the video below (you can select HD for better video quality). Let me know what you all think...…

Computers... AAAAARGH... a sorry tale of woe

So frustrated at the moment... the studio office has been in a state of utter confusion for weeks.

It is a sorry tale of woe.

My desk was starting to fall apart. The chipboard desktop and drawers were slowly turning into something resembling coarse sawdust. Why do they cut down trees and grind up the timber to make artificial timber... seems loony to me. Anyway, several metres of grey duct tape was no longer capable of preserving the desk's structural integrity.

So...…

weakness

sometimes i forget how much power i have right at my finger tips.  it dawned on me sometime in the middle of the night …..duhhhhhhhhh, Loryn, you want to be heard so BE HEARD!!!

so i dedicate this BLOG to everyone out there who:

1. lacks the courage to say what they really want to say

2.  would rather cower and run away from difficult conversations, then have the convictions to see them through.

3.  thinks admitting a wrong somehow implies weakness

JR's TED Prize wish: Use art to turn the world inside out

I don't know how I missed this. I stumbled upon JR's acceptance of his TED Prize and his WISH.

Delightful to watch. I like his work on the Favela the most...powerful!  Enjoy!

WHOOPS :( There goes my DSLR LCD Screen...

After a long tiring day I also managed to ruin my new DSLR. I accidentally dropped it on my carpet and immediately checked for damages. The lens is fine, no scratches on the body. Wait a sec...****! I cracked my LCD glass screen!!!! Not the full screen, but a reasonable chunk. I was going to purchase a Macro lens today...but now I think I'll have to wait. I guess no more photography for a while. Don't you love surprises? I wonder if the warranty covers the LCD…

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIc02QBihJQ&feature=share&list=UUM6N5AOYoyg6eAkbcDWpNFg

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
