Art as Therapy?

Although the idea of a group combining art and therapy here really appealed to me, I know I could not make the commitment to a daily journal. So I passed on that opportunity.

But it got me thinking that perhaps others here would benefit from the story I submitted to 1001 Journals. It's about art, its about therapy, and it's about overcoming obstacles (aren't we all?).

It didn't take long to fill up - there are still a few people to get back to me, don't worry if you are one of the people I have talked to over the last 24 hours I have kept your place you just need to pop over and hit the join. I understand people had to go to sleep or work etc before I could get back to their requests to join and the group hadn't formally opened when I first did my blog.

Busy!

Have been hard at work in my studio, creating a mosaic puzzle piece that will go into a mural on the children's wing of a hospital in the Southern U.S. Was recruited for this project by a friend and am not even sure (without looking it up) of the location. The work is small and tedious, thus quite time consuming.

I have had the flu for 5 days now and have really been out of it, doing little more than lying around, sketching and occasionally checking in with the computer. Feeling… Continue

Musings on a gibbous moon!

Maybe not quite there yet.

Looking out of my window just after midnight last night, I could see a sliver of a beautiful yellow moon, hanging low in the clear sky. The stars bright, as if dancing around her.

I opened the window wider still, and leaned out to smell the air, sweet, new, fresh carrying a charge with it. That wonderful smell of early summer nights, the scent of blossoms and flowers, especially the early dog roses, all carried on the evening air. All was quiet,… Continue

Can someone please help me?

Okay Guys this is not about self promotion I really need help!!! I have fifteen 2d canvas artworks that I need to post to my Etsy store. I finally had the chance to take pictures outside. My studio is an awful place to photograph.

Any way after taking all these pics I upload them and they all turned out yucky :(

The other photos in my store where taken in my previous home which had awesome natural lighting.

Outside I thought was a good idea but it just made them look… Continue

New Group - Art Therapy; You and Your Art

Art Therapy – You and Your Art

Hiya Peoples – Gary and the Gals have invited me to create an Art Therapy Group. So I thought I would post a heads up before I open it up to interested parties.

The group will examine your relationship with your art – where you will learn how to open a dialog and hopefully help overcome problem areas such as stress – creative blocks – fears – etc. By learning some handy reflection exercises and making some time each day for just you and an… Continue

About Mixed Media from Wikipedia

Mixed media (oil, spackle, charred driftwood, glass, crushed graphite, and canvas collage on canvas etc, etc.) in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed.

There is an important distinction between "mixed-media" artworks and "multimedia art". Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. For example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could… Continue

Barbed Wire Bird Nests and Secret Boxes

I have been really getting into my assemblage artworks again. It is like i go in spurts. I'll work my butt off for the next month producing as many different and varied artworks in this series as i can imagine. So far i am loving the results and i have so so many more ideas i want to do.

I love the feel the boxes give, mystery, secrets, unknown things, hidden treasures. It is like being a kid again imagining your in an attic and you stumble across a loose wooden floor board. Having pulled… Continue

I think I'm getting It!

Hi everyone,

Social networking and Ning are all new to me, so if my posts and comments are scattered all over the place, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! ( plus I'm verrrry old and slightly brain damaged from years of paint and chemicals!):-)

I retired from the art show circuit, due to my inability to keep up. Since then I've joined a couple of local and online art groups because I wanted the motivation to keep painting. I have a fear that if I stop painting I will never start… Continue

Memorial Day/USamerikanischerfeiertagzuehrenderkriegsgefallenen.

The Germans just can't have a simple, short word for anything, can they? Oh wait,... they do in this case: Gedenktag. (D'oh!) LOL

OK, being totally serious now... Today in the US is a holiday that we call "Memorial Day." I imagine that you each have in your respective countries a similar such holiday designed to honor those who've fallen in the line of military duty, securing and maintaining your nation's freedom.

As many of we here in the US have the… Continue

Getting on the Road

We will be leaving Wednesday for Georgia. The house looks very empty - and it echos! This week we pack the last of the stuff, pack the car, clean the house, sign the papers and off we go. Feels good to be here finally. I'll check in from the road.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
