Quiet Moments

My thoughts typically turn to birds, nesting, and Spring while in the grip of a Michigan winter.  As a result, my art heads in the same direction.  This assemblage consists of an old box mounted to a piece of exotic wood, collaged with vintage and decorative papers, and adorned with natural elements such as a…

Sunday 15 January

This is a large piece using acrylics and waxes, ironed with a hot iron, overpainted on an old well used canvas.

It looks kind of raw up close, but I didn't like to touch it in case I wrecked it (as usually happens).…

Swiss Designer Steals My Lighting Design

Hello, everyone. Some of you may or may not remember this, but a few years back I posted images of a teabag chandelier on Loving Mixed Media, Etsy, and a few other sites. The design was a hit and in fact, my Visual Arts teacher has the original chandelier still hanging in her room. We even contacted Lipton back in 2007/2008 to get some sponsorship (never heard from them again). Yesterday, I was surfing online to find my chandelier and the image vanished! It use to be the first image that…

YAY! My Logo Has Been Approved :)

For the past two years, I haven't found too much inspiration to paint. So, I decided to investigate other forms of Visual Arts - Logo Designs. I began looking online for logo portfolios, tips & tricks and all that jazz. Then I purchased a book called "Logo Design Love" by David Airey. Definitely enjoyed the book...in fact I couldn't put it down! Now let me tell you this...I dislike reading...so that's a scientific breakthrough right there! LOL. Back to the point - I focused on some words…

Stepping Out into the Open

I'm new here and barely an artist... so stepping into the open where there are a lot of accomplished, talented artists, isn't easy for me. However, I've decided to spend the rest of my life creating art.

I had some artistic experiences over the years but didn't entirely devote all my spare energy to art, as I was busy with child rearing and my other creative pursuit, writing. Now that the kids are adults I need to go back to the creation of art.

I decided that about two…

Hi

Firstly I would like to say a big hello to all of you, this is such an inspirational place, I am very happy to be part of it.

I am eager to try my hand at more unusual mixed media works and assemblage as I have a mild case of hoarding. There is an over abundance of art supplies & interesting objects crowding my studio - (papers, magazine pictures, beads, feathers, figurines, junk yard & second hand shop finds, buttons, fur, material)...the list goes on!  I need to put all of…

After looking at what I've been doing with photography, my brother gave me some information and the entering fee for a photography contest.  I've never shown my photography with anyone but family and everyone on here but, he's talked me into it since I have until April 2nd to get everything together.  I posted some photos that I took at 0300 this morning and I'm wanting some feedback and construction crit.  Lemme know what you like, don't like and if you think any of them are worthy of being…

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
