Took part in an Art Festival - sharing experience and some questions

So the last weekend (Jan 22 and Jan 23rd) was my solo show. And this weekend (Jan 30th) I took part in a street art fest that gets organized every year on the…

a favorite pair of jeans

so i have been thinking an awful lot about Creative expression and how it affects others lately.

and whether we like it or not, it does.

affect others.

now, some Artists may Create, whatever their medium, for the Soul purpose OF affecting others, but i would like to think that most, like my Self, Create because on some deeper level this is how we "say" all of those things we normally can't, this is how we share all of those emotions there are no words for, this is how we…

For "Newbie Painters"...like myself (A must read!) Seriously...No laughing!

Step #1

NEVER ever use a hot glue gun around something you LIKE! Then again...If I hadn't ,I wouldn't have come up with this idea!

Make sure you have more than just the "strangely named what you think are basic colored paints on hand" because they are NOT colors as they seem, they are EVIL!...because chances are,you have NO clue what mixes good to get the ideal colors you have in YOUR mind! Hint...get a color mixing chart and some…

My solo show and how it went..

I recently had my first solo show. It was fun to say the least.. day 1 was a bit quiet, but day 2 took me by surprise. I was on my feet for nearly 8 hours continously talking and giving tours and selling. By the end of the day, I was croaking like a frog and every bone in my body was aching! :)

I had kept a diary just for this and made notes, reminders and long lists of To-DOs for nearly 6 months. Little things like the table cloth, flowers, hand made but professional looking price…

It all started with a pantie liner....

Got you all to peek and wonder...what the hell???  This morning I opened my makeup/hair tie drawer in a desperate attempt to find a pantie liner as with having 8 people who have lived here, just about anything got dropped in there.

During my did I found a marble...hmmm,I thought,so I put it in my pocket. Then I found a few buttons, dug some more forgetting about the pantie liner,a pair of barbie shoes, another marble,an angel pendant,a pair of cameos,a broken pair of blue marbled…

i have a Run i must go get dressed for.

i can NOT believe the response my writing, films and Art has generated over the last several weeks.  let me just start there.

and the response has been all over the Map (both literally and figuratively).

First..to all of my AMAZINGLY supportive, compassionate friends...i am OKAY!  i promise.  yes, i am on a journey and seeking Healing within the Deepest part of my Being.  yes, this journey is painful and at times  terrifying.  yes, this journey is one i have CONSCIOUSLY chosen for… Continue

Journaling on Canvas Continued......

This was the first canvas I attempted when the art room reopened.  I love the concept of windows and thinking about the unique distinctions between what individual observers see when they look out.  When we lived in the hotel, I became aware of the impact the view from…

DUPLICITOUS ART DEAL

SITUATION:  You and a fellow artist make a deal to swap a piece of their original artwork for a piece of your original artwork. Each of you choose the piece you want. You give the artist the original piece of work they chose and in turn, they give you a "photocopy" of their work.

QUESTION: How would this make you feel?

Large Abstract Painting Technique

So I decided to take a two day workshop with Tony Tozer on large contemporary painting.  I got myself two very large canvasses and headed off for the day with my arty mate Margie. It was at a great arts centre where they run heaps of workshops. No air con though and the temperature reached 38C that day. I was a tad sticky I can tell you.

So the idea is to free up your work and create some abstract paintings. Tony told us that we would need to tear some newspaper into pieces and lay…

"Artists don't think like everyone else, I'm afraid" sigh...

Picture "Converging Lines" photo by Barbara Schmaeling

Life sometimes gets in the way of making art. People assume that we work to live, have prestige, succeed in business, or whatever. But an Artist wants to find the creative in every aspect of living life.

They often feel like outsiders or either they are so introverted they don't see the stuff around… Continue

Two LMMers Meet IRL!!

I went to see Richant's art show today -- it was less than a half hour drive from my house on Capitol Hill in DC. It's in a really beautiful community center and the space is LOVELY. AND she has sold a bunch o' paintings already! LOVE THEM.  Of course, you've seen them in her various blogs....

Richant wasn't anywhere like how she is in her videos -- NO that's WRONG she's EXACTLY like her videos (haha what a surprise). Dressed from head to toe in PURPLE and just a joy to be with. We…

i have earned my Self another conviction in the last 36 hours:

not This.

i will Try......

Oops

Wont be around much until the middle of Feb... put my back out a couple of weeks ago and blew most of the month's download limit in the few days I was bed bound. LOL 21gig on Bob Ross alone... happy little trees and dozing on and off through the muscle relaxants and pain meds. Shame the only evergreen trees around here are in woodlots and our snowcaps don't look anything like North American mountains. Oh well, he helped me sleep through the worst pain.

So anyway, now I'm shaped…

Embrace the Sun

I do a monthly art swap with my friend Veronica.  We met on line and have been friends for two years.  Each month or so we take turns choosing a theme for our swap and this month the theme is "small canvas utilizing texture".  I decided to combine the canvas challenge with journaling as an…

:: My bookshelves :: 5 fave/read books recently ::

As I continue to enjoy my part-time art classes, the steady decline  of my usual staple of marketing, business or popular non-fiction books is noticeable. Our little library has somehow stopped getting filled up and the wife has noticed.  But in the corner of my teeny tiny…

The Third Eye

When I photographed my progress on the new “big picture” to post it in this blog, the photo somehow didn’t look right. At first I thought it was just a little bit of untidiness in the work which I would correct as I went; a little lens distortion from the camera and maybe the colour balance under my fluoro work light.…

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
