Mixed Media Workshop

So yesterday (29th Jan09) i conducted a mixed media techniques workshop with 21 Art teachers from the local and neighboring area. The workshop took place at a local high school in the art room department.

I have to say the experience was fantastic, even though it was my first real workshop teaching adults. They are much easier to control and they work really well on their own without distraction from other class mates he he he.

Some of… Continue

Original Stamp Idea

I saw this on HGTV this morning, a girl made a stamp using a sheet of cork from the craft store and gluing her cut out design to a piece of wood using rubber cement, I thought it was brilliant and wanted to share.

Of Muses and Weenie Counts

Thanks for sharing your article, Mary Helena. It is true that women aren't very prevalent as artists and thinking about the attitude about women throughout history, it isn't really a surprise. Although, as someone who grew up in a time when bras were being burned and women asserting themselves in so many ways, it is a bit disappointing. By our very biology, however, it is inevitable that if we choose to have families, we get distracted by our considerably important role as mothers and sometimes… Continue

Enchanted Feline Painting (WIP)

Enchanted Feline Work in Progress

Well tonight i decided to take a break from preparing for my upcoming workshop to spend some time in the studio to paint, sometime you need to switch off and for me the best way is to paint...i seem to escape to a place where time or deadlines don't exist.

I also happened to make a youtube video showing the painting process and talking about my first experience of attending a workshop. So check… Continue

Create, inspire and Educate

I just wanted to write a small blurb about critiques. My aim and goal has always been about helping others to reach their potential.

To create, inspire and educate is what i am about. Part of the reason i have set up this Ning account is to help you develop as an artist. To give you guidance and share my knowledge and passion for art. I don't claim to know know everything, nor do i claim to think i am better than anyone else. We all develop at different rates and we are all at different… Continue

Sardine Can Assemblage Art

Current Work in Progress

So the above images are of my latest Sardine Can Assemblage Artwork. When i start with a sardine can i don't have any previous idea of what i am going to create, it all comes intuitively. But within usually a few days they start to take on an identity all of their own. With this sardine can above i wanted to make a wig out of metal similar to that which Judges and barristers wear.

So slowly it is… Continue

My Painting Challenge to YOU!

Today is a brand new day! Today i am going to post a challenge. This challenge will push you and there are no right or wrong results...remember that!

It is not about who does a better painting, there is no competition, your only up against yourself and your creativity.

You can take as long as you like to complete the challenge and it would be good if you can post your 'progression' here...meaning you can document your process, how you feel, the challenges, the frustrations, bits you… Continue

Youtube and Copyright!

Today yet again i had another video from my channel 'capricornartist73' audio muted for the use of a madonna song. Ok so i'm going to have a 'bitch fit' about it. I have had this channel for well over a year, over 1000 subscriber and suddenly in the last month 5 of my videos have been muted.

OK so here is the deal, i purchase music from the itunes store so why the hell can't i use it as i see fit? These music artists need to realise that we are promoting their music (i get people asking me… Continue

FlatBed scanner photos

I started a series last year where i wanted to capture images just with using my flatbed scanner. None of the images have been manipulated in photoshop, how you see them is how they turned out...the only thing i might have manipulated would be the colour but not the actual image. This is one of the first images which came out.

I like how my eye looks, it is like i am trapped in a box and im really focused, if you stare at the eye long enough you… Continue

Photographing Rusty Metal

Ok so i decided to take my new camera NikonD40 (pretty good beginners SLR camera) out and about today. I have this mission to walk for an hour and why not take the new camera and try and capture some cool rusty metal 'stuff' Since i live on a dairy farm there is no shortage of rusty metal, old tractors, fencing etc.

So this is my first picture i am kind of happy with.

I am satisfied with the composition at this stage since i am… Continue

16th January 2009

So it is my aim to attempt to blog at least once or twice a week. If more fantastic but i find it hard to sit long enough but my new motto is Dream Big No Excuses so guess i have to stick with it!

This will be my first blog on Ning and in fact I'm pretty new to the whole blogging thing, but i thought it was about time to see what this is all about. Seems like most of my artist friends on Youtube have a Ning account, so being normally a leader type, i thought i'd follow for once and… Continue

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
