A bit about me, kd

hey there,
i'm keeley! I'm in my mid-30's, married, and live in Canada's capital city, Ottawa. we have a pet herd consisting of 2 dogs and 2 cats. it's always exciting here. i made 2008 my year to get back to art, and 2009 has been dubbed my Brave New Year. I'm leaving a tonne behind me and moving forward toward what i enjoy in life: art.

Artwise? I enjoy anything that can make a mark on another surface:
homemade charcoal bits from a campfire on a nearby rock will do if the mood strikes. these days i've been doing some multimedia pieces that use watercolour, ink, acrylic, and plaster on canvas. I sometimes do linocut prints, and like to use images i capture in photos as subject matter - i have been taking pictures sporatically since my first photography class in highschool, and am loving my digital Nikon SLR lately.

I was inspired by Gary, and Suzi and Wyanne and my art friends over on the nerdfighter ning site to actually "pick up a brush" again after leaving it behind for a career i loathed. I've recently discovered Jared Knight too! As I've grown, and priorities have shifted, I've found solace in my journey back to art. I was inspired enough to get back in, and create more than I have in literally, a decade, in 8 months. Now I'm looking at expanding - into the online, international world - the internet! I uploaded my first video about a month or so ago and am thinking about what comes next for my 4th as we speak.

I'll post some art bits as they come :)
I also have a couple of other blogs that will have a variety of great art conversations, pictures, inspirations etc. on them:

Loosen Me Up Art Challenge

Posted on February 24, 2009 at 6:42am 3 Comments

so here are my results from this challenge.

i loved doing this. the videos were perfect gary. just enough detail, instruction and guidance to help me move freely through this oh-so-new process of working. i loved every second, and plan on working this through even further. i think it has so much empty space that it could use another 'round' of layers, and some charcoal.

we'll see! if it changes, of course i will update it… Continue

i've been beavering away at this, and not sure how i feel at all any more about it! various parts i like, others i dislike.

with that in mind, please see my progress to date.

you can click on the pictures and they will open full size in a new window :)

Hi Keeley! Gary forwarded your blog about the charity providing art supplies to the homeless and I was wondering if we could talk about it. Can you contact me by sending me a personal message on my page here on Gary's ning site, please? Thanks!!!

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIc02QBihJQ&feature=share&list=UUM6N5AOYoyg6eAkbcDWpNFg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zAPZn5TEyM&list=UUM6N5AOYoyg6eAkbcDWpNFg&index=41

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
