Is that really your artist statement?

Posted on August 13, 2012 at 3:30am 7 Comments

I am always amused by artist statements that say absolutely nothing and manage to be pretentious at the same time.  It is good to know there are others who share my thoughts on this subject:  How the Art World's Lingo of Exclusivity Took Root, Branched Out, And Then Rotted From Within

That article references this one, which is also quite entertaining…

LMM Should Take Over Art & Soul - Repost from LMM A&S Group

Posted on June 12, 2012 at 1:52am 3 Comments

As you all know, I love Art & Soul.  However, in the past few years it has become scrafter haven.  While there are some really great instructors/classes, they appear to be endangered. Sooooo, I think LMM should take over Art & Soul.  Not really, but I think we have such a rich source of potential instructors that you should all submit applications to teach in April.  Of course, you would have to move fast since Glenny is probably already in the process of lining up her workshops. …

Writing an Artist Statement

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 1:30pm 9 Comments

I have reached a point in my life where I prefer to pay other people to do most tasks for me.  I have also reached a point in my art where I believe I require an Artist Statement.  In an effort to meld these two realizations, I have turned to the following site to assist me Arty Bollocks Generator.  Amazingly, I won't have to pay for this service.

The Importance of Life Long Learning

Posted on June 10, 2011 at 10:00pm 10 Comments

When I worked at non-profit associations, the continuing education departments always championed the idea of life-long learning.  As a nod to them, this morning I have learned three things before my first cup of coffee.

1. The pool is amazingly refreshing first thing in the morning.

2. Thin white cotton pajamas, while excellent at keeping one cool on hot summer nights, offer little in the way of protection from neighbors’ prying eyes when one falls into the pool first thing in…

Art and Soul Retreat Swaps

Posted on January 8, 2011 at 8:00am 8 Comments

So every year I go to this retreat and they always have swaps of little things that people have made or packets of stuff to use in art.  I'm always too busy to participate, but this year I'm making these little books.  Started with dollar store board books 3"x4", sanded them down and then covered them inside and out with citrasolv paper.  Then I made little book thongs to go in them out of hemp cord, beads, and charms.  What do you think?…

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
