Art Retreats

Posted on April 14, 2011 at 1:22am 5 Comments

With Art and Soul fast approaching (14 days Y'all!!!!!!!!!!) I've been looking for other retreats and classes that would be a good fit for me.  I've taken lots of online classes.  I've taken lots of local classes but I dislike the 1 local artist who does the most classes so I'm looking for other options.

I found this art and yoga retreat in Nags Head North Carolina.  And it's a TOTAL PERFECT fit for me.  Here is a description of the retreat from the website:

Number Nine

Posted on September 10, 2009 at 7:31am 4 Comments

About a month or more ago I posted a blog entry about submitting my work to be published in an Amanda Palmer themed tarot card deck. This weekend we spent a wonderful long holiday weekend on St. Augustine Beach with some of my bestest of friends. While driving home I made a very happy discovery. I have been selected to be one of the artists on the AFP tarot card deck. (That's Amanda F***ing Palmer to the uninitiated).

I've been selected to design and execute the card for Nine of… Continue

To Name or not to Name

Posted on June 23, 2009 at 12:43am 2 Comments

Well, it's not a question for me. I always name. Sometimes I have a title for a piece of art in mind before I start. Sometimes the name comes to me while I'm working on it. Sometimes a piece is finished before it even tells me it's name. Heck, even if the piece is "Unnamed # 26" it's still named.

Still, I was reading an article about Eric Legge and found his concept on naming his artwork very interesting. When asked the question "Do you consider yourself an Outsider Artist" here is… Continue

interesting little test I found on Finding Your Voice as an artist

Posted on May 14, 2009 at 2:30am 1 Comment

I picked up the most recent Somerset Studios recently. I actually picked it up because I misread the front cover. I read Crows instead of Crowns. ahhh, but I digress.

About halfway thru the magazine in an interesting little article about how to find your voice as an artist. There are steps and a quick test included so I thought I'd pass it along. And to give proper credit, the article is written by an artist named Gina Armfield.

You're welcome- thanks for your comments on my photos, as well. I was thinking the bride string either had leaves or coins or crystals on it, but I wasn't sure which, cause it's tiny. It looks great.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
