How did you hear about Loving Mixed Media?
Youtube. I love your sharing of techniques. Sometimes, I just need a kick in the butt to motivate me to take a chance to just play. I get so caught up in the "will it sell?" creativity lock up. I like to share and learn and this seems like a good group. You rock Gary.
Describe your style of art and materials you like to use?
My style is pretty diverse. I seem to go through fases in diferent medias. Right now, I am spending a lot of time creating multiple layer paintings with a large amount of texture. I am trying to capture an aetherial kind of atmosphere in this series. Until I get tired and move on...

Art Book Keeping - Tax Time

Posted on February 28, 2010 at 10:44am 3 Comments

Okay, so it's tax time again and I absolutly hate getting all the crap out and ready to go to the tax preparer. I always think, "There has got to be a less painful way to do this." Anyone out there want to share what software they prefer? What methods of keeping everything in order? Receipt-wrangling? Donations to shows, organizations, subscriptions ....ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Honorable Mention

Posted on October 11, 2009 at 5:25am 3 Comments

Hi Guys- My painting was awarded "Honorable Mention" which is basically 4th place, in the juried art show. The first and second place winners were both pastels and the third was a mixed media collage. I still banked some cash and hopefully a sale, so it's all good. The other painting I submitted to the show was rejected. The one from the "Gloss or Matte Lover" post was rejected. It is always weird to see what the judges like and don't like. It will… Continue

I figured I had better get busy and strike while the iron is hot since they will be publishing my website! I will get them up on etsy and my website this weekend and then stock up! I made a video of… Continue

Worst House Chore of All-Vote Now

Posted on September 25, 2009 at 4:12pm 9 Comments

I hate housework. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. It is just so repetative! I would rather be making art, but no, I have to do dumb stuff like wash clothes, wash dishes, wash toilets, etc.

You know what chore I absolutly hate doing the most, vacuuming. I just dread it. The stupid thing always has "issues". It ether won't pick up, needs to be emptied or my most unfavorite is when hair is all wrapped around the little bar thing and I have to sit on the floor for twenty minutes cutting… Continue

Hi Suzette, I started the Sketch Habit this morning and I loved it. Thanks for your great advice and handy tips. I felt so creative after I finished. Can't wait till tomorrow. You are so talented. You also make is easy for me, I'm a little in the box and this first exercise really freed me up.

By the way, I started a discussion about Bravo's new show Work of Art. If you don't have Bravo, there is a link in the conversation for watching it online. It's a must-see!

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
