Bronwyn Palmer said… No, I live out in the country, and consequently miss most of those kinds of things. I have not actually attempted encaustics yet, I have a whole lot of stuff ready to do it, but haven't screwed up the courage to give it a go. It would be great to do a workshop or have a lesson first... will have to investigate.
Audry L Briere said… That is what was supposed to happen to me, take over the basement, but, my daughter plays the drums, and my husband the guitar, so I was out-numbered...but I'm thinking of taking it outside when the weather is nice. But the ideas I have, when I finally get to painting will be worth waiting for!
Audry L Briere said… Hi, sorry it took so long to respond, it's nice to have something in common! I havn't started my encaustic paintings yet due to lack of space, but I love viewing yours!
Louise le Roux said… Hi Paula
Thanks for your comments on my work. Really appreciate it. As you probably see, I haven't put on any thing for a long time, I have been working too much the past year. I am not in galleries yet, but I am a member of a freelance painting society and we have 2-3 exhibitions a year. I don't have a favorite piece, I change my mind too often
.
Regards, Louise

Rhonda McDuffie said… Thanks for info Paula and congratulations on your upcoming show - really hope it all goes well. I really love this little gallery in my town - for the life of me I can't remember the name. It has a nice variety of unique unstuffy art. Just wonderful to walk thru -- leaves you smiling and uplifted. We have a tremendous amount of creative talent in the area. The John C.Campbell Folk Arts School in Murphy NC is just unfreakin believable in all that it has to offer. Asheville is 3 hours away and is a mecca for artists.

Rhonda McDuffie said… Where I'm at (North Mountains) - people really appreciate the arts and we have a nice Artists Guild (albeit a bit on the conservative side). The bigger cities like Atlanta and Chatanooga really have it going on. I'm not keen on selling in this market here - wish I had more passion to get out there and sell but that would mean some travelling to better selling venues for my type work. How about you? (btw Portland rocks)
Rhonda McDuffie said… Thank you Paula for friending me. I enjoy the soulfulness of your work. The hushed tones speak volumes to me.

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.
And this is the completed screen ready for printing. I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
