World-Wandering in the northern hemisphere

Posted on June 14, 2009 at 10:30pm 5 Comments

On 2 June I headed cross-hemisphere to London, arriving on 3 June. I met my dh who had flown out a few days earlier and we drove down to Cwmbran, Wales, for my brother-in-law's wedding. The wedding was held in a tiny medieval church in the middle of nowhere, and the drizzle added a sense of dislocation from the world. Most of the Parry clan were present, and I renewed my acquaintance with a horde of half-remembered aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The next day I left dh at Cardiff airport… Continue

I love ravens and blackbirds and crows : ) I have some that swoop by my house or sit in the trees in my backyard. I especially love it when one of them is on a branch of a dead tree that was hit by lightning...ah, Edgar Allan Poe!

That's great! The hotel in Williams if very nice with adequate dinner the first night and really excellent dinner after we got back from the Canyon...breakfast and dinner are part of the package. We got there earlier on the first night and think we got left overs so get there around 6 instead of 5. Be sure to have some of the freshly baked bread pudding. OMG...to die for. The hotel you would stay in at the Canyon...starts with an M but can't remember the name off hand...wasn't the Ritz but was clean and comfortable. All the ones through AAA have air conditioning but we didn't need it. Not on the rim but within very easy walking distance to the rim and restaurants. The hotel food was only adequate...breakfast was not too bad, though...so we ate lunch elsewhere the day we left...lunch is included in the bus tour and it is at the hotel and even though not excellent, not all that bad either. It can get quite cold...as well as hot...so be sure to take clothes you can layer and a compact umbrella as it rained part of one day when we were there. It is one of the true wonders of the world and well worth the visit. Be sure to look for the condors. We saw 11 of them soaring back and forth at sunset at the rim and they perch where you can see them quite close in the morning..just over the edge. We live close to Wild Animal Park where a few of them were hatched. They are magnificent animals. You will have a great time.

It was AAA. Unfortunately if you are not a member, you can't use their travel services. :-( I did look up to see who else might have package deals and found this site: http://www.thetrain.com/

We did the 3 day/2 night package. We chose going coach because the others didn't offer perks that were worth the extra cost and you are only on the train for a couple of hours. We were glad we didn't pay extra for the observation dome because the windows were'nt all that clean and we could see plenty out of the generous windows anyway. You might find yourself sitting by a post, though. When we did, we just waited until the train was under way and moved to a seat with a better view. There are fewer tourists in June, especially at the beginning of the month, so there were plenty of empty seats. If you want a snack or something to drink, take your own. Our package included the bus tour...remember to ask for Joe. You'll recognize him as he is the one with the dark hair...he is one of the local Indians and he really knows his stuff. And he's funny. The food at the Canyon wasn't anything to write home about but it was good enough to satisfy. There were some more expensive restaurants but we were into spending our money on doing things as opposed to eating things. Let me know if you have any questions after you read about the possible choices.

There were others sites, too. Just Google "train to the grand canyon from williams" to see what else you come up with. Compare for pricing but the site above has prices comparable to what we paid and you get quite a lot for the money. We had a great time.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIc02QBihJQ&feature=share&list=UUM6N5AOYoyg6eAkbcDWpNFg

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
