i just bought this fab tool for burning into paper and making marks. Unfortuantely I made a boo-boo in my haste and excitement to get my hands on it and ordered the U.S version. I now can't even use the thing. I wondered if anyone in the U.S would like to buy the tool from me for $40, I can send it to you.
It is such a fab tool with 11 different heads to choose from to make the most cool patterns in your wood or paper. I was previously burning paper with incense sticks, with this tool…

Woohoo got my work accepted into this gallery for a charity auction In New York, yeah i know, no money but the kudos of having it in a NY gallery is cool. This was a recent piece that Andy Mercer (from red bubble) and I collabarated on called 'Geisha Surfing'. It was a bit of light hearted fun. It was not long after this that the japanese tsunami happened sadly, but this auction is to raise money for the victims so it has been a great bit of collabaration for us both to feel we can help a…

So I decided to take a two day workshop with Tony Tozer on large contemporary painting. I got myself two very large canvasses and headed off for the day with my arty mate Margie. It was at a great arts centre where they run heaps of workshops. No air con though and the temperature reached 38C that day. I was a tad sticky I can tell you.
So the idea is to free up your work and create some abstract paintings. Tony told us that we would need to tear some newspaper into pieces and lay…

L Potter said… Hi there Mo
I would love to come to the Art Escape at the Tanks. I wonder if you could send dates to me and any other details. I'm supposed to be going to Sydney sometime around then, but I can probably fit my trip around the encaustic workshop. I've been to the Tanks site but they only advertise stuff two months in advance. I'm a total newbie, but I like playing, have bought a couple of books, watch a few vids including yours on YouTube and I'm just about ready to get into it. Looks like fun. Cheers Lynn
Good morning Mo. Very sorry for not responding earlier to your message you sent me earlier. I love your work - love the use of wax - I havent used it for some time but loved the results when I did - scratching into it and then applying a dye base over it to bleed into the surface. Will look forward to your workshop up this way when your in Rocky - all the best and thanks again for the message. Cheers.
Hello Mo!
Would love to attend McGregor Winter School. A friend, Kaye Doecke, and i have been doing a little research on encaustic as we would love to try it. I have been sharing all your fab encaustic artworks and videos with her and she has now got the bug lol. We will need to check into cost of course and materials though before we can make a decision. Will check into RADF funding as well. Is your workshop going to be encaustic for dummies (as we have no experience with encaustic at all) or will it be for the experienced? It would be great to finally meet you so am keeping fingers and toes crossed.
I think it is awesome that you are representing Aus and making a presentation at the International Encaustic Conference. You will, of course, be totally brilliant. I love the natural way you teach on your videos - so just be yourself and you'll be great. It's lovely too that you will get to catch up with Mary Helena and Diana from LMM. Isn't it wonderful that through a place like LMM, you can go somewhere and feel that you are going to meet friends?
Wishing you a very happy and enjoyable time in the US. Cheers...Sandra xo
Hi Mo!
Thanks a lot for posting all those videos on encaustic on this side,i had a nice hour watching them in my cosy office, dreaming about setting up my own wax workshop next year soon!!!!
I already got a blowtirch from Father Xmas and i wantes to ask you which is the best suppliers for wax and tools etc. on Internet and if there is one book on encaustic, which one would you recommend?I will make an order on Amazon and i wanted your advice before i send it off!!!
I'm into small squares in the moment,20x20cm mainly, and i'm thinking of doing them on woodblocks which could also serve as a base for encaustic.
If you feel like doing a swap on those small works with me,don't hesitate as i dream of having one of yours. Maybe you sell them as well and you can let me know how much they are etc.
What became of your project with your friend and those large inkdrops on paper which reminded me of this artist who puts light behind them?!Isn't that fantastic!!!! Oh,i dream of doing such large work but i have neither time nor space for it but it's good others can show it to us via internet. I will review all those videos again when i have a quiet moment!
Well,have a nice Xmas and enjoy spring,love from me,Elke
Robyn Cole Artworks said… Mo: love your stuff. Have been stalking this site for a couple of months now while I get my studio set up in Boquete, Panama. Just had my first show and am working on my web site and blog. Am in the process of setting up "Encaustic Sources" link in my blogroll and have included your "Well Waxed" link. If you think my stuff is worthy, would you be so kind as to reciprocate? My link is: http://www.robyncoleartworks.com/artworks-blog.html
Would very much appreciate it. I'm loving encaustic and sold 3 paintings over the weekend. Was more satisfying to me than years of working a "real" job! When I've got two more shows done this month, I'll come back here, post my work and get more active on your site. Am hoping to build an encaustic community down here in Panama! That's why I sympathize with your efforts in Australia! Take care, Robyn Cole
Hi Mo!
Thanks for replying to my question, seems like normal candlewax is of no use but i will set myself up for some encaustic this year as i really like your art!
Happy creating over in Oz,bise,Elke

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.
And this is the completed screen ready for printing. I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
