Happy March

Embrace destiny
As the bird clutches the branch
Instinctually

About me:

Although I have an undergraduate art degree, it has been many (many) years since I have done my own art and I am pretty shy about putting my stuff out there.

Last summer I had a wonderful opportunity to teach young children in an art experience class. Since then, I have been getting closer and closer to doing my own work, but I had fear! I didn't want to face the skills I lost or forgot about and all the wasted time. Finally, I had a bit of a breakthrough when I discovered Gary's videos on youtube!

I was inspired right away by his terrific art and generous, fun spirit! Lately, I have done some kind of art making everyday. That feels really liberating! So, I'm looking forward to what comes next; doing more, thinking less and doing art from the heart!

My best wishes to you all, Darrelle Anne

P.S. Little Green Squirrel is the name of my etsy shop and I've been using that name on other sites to promote my business. It seems kinda weird here, but too late! If you're curious about the squirrel thing, you can read about it on my bio in my etsy profile...or ask!

A Question by Robert Frost

A voice said, Look me in the stars
And tell me truly, men of earth,
If all the soul-and-body scars
Were not too much to pay for birth.

Beautiful Emily Dickinson poem....

Posted on February 28, 2009 at 10:57pm 2 Comments

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

'Dreams' by Langston Hughes

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

My First Week

Posted on February 23, 2009 at 1:42pm 3 Comments

Thanks to all who have made me feel welcome here in my first week on this site. I am so happy that I have done as much as what I did. The kind words and encouragement have kept me going.

This is a really big breakthrough for me as I have hardly done any drawing or painting for years. Only a few things here and there. So, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Gary, thanks for the inspiration, help and the site! To all, thanks for sharing all the cool… Continue

I 'heart' quotes and poems. Here is a tidbit of modern "imagist" poetry to share for today. Enjoy!

For me personally your work shows lots of promise. I love your experimentation and your colour combinations and tonal blending. It has STAR written all over it....Just keep doing what you are doing and you will develop. My Fav painting so far is the Doll and i have commented on the picture. Fantastic;)

Thanks for your compliment on my tiles....I have sooo much fun with those...have a new "batch" and am about to make another art box...they are all different! Love your work too, especially the baby doll and the goldfish....alot of movement in the piece...almost as if you are swimming with the fish!

Hi Darrelle Anne, no my work isn't encaustic although I really would like to add that element to it sometime very soon. Thanks for the beautiful poem, I'll have to check out some more Dickinson. Cool little vintage store you have there, I will keep my eye on it.
See ya around.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
