Encaustic Monotypes done on a HotBox

"I use small wax sticks form Enkaustikos so I don't need to use a ventilation exhaust fan.  I use a portable fan in the room to keep the air moving most of the time anyway."

"Very informative! Do you have to work in a ventilated room like you would if using a hot plate and melting your own encaustic paints?"

"I purchased a Nutone 672R Exhaust Fan ($70).  There is also a 671R fan model.  This is what you would normally have in your bathroom but it is more powerful.  I also bought a Vent Kit (8 feet) from Home Depot (not expensive..a few…"

"I purchased a Nutone exhaust fan and then I bought a 8 foot vent kit that would run along the ceiling to a small basement window. This works great to remove the encaustic fumes in my studio. It was under $100 and easy to set up and…"

"My husband put in an exhaust fan for me that goes right up into the attic. I have a friend that put a wall mount hood fan/exhaust the kind that usually seen over a cook top, salvaged from a kitchen on his wall. Hope that helps."

Ventilation for the encaustic studio

I have a basement studio with very small wooden windows that only open inwards on hinged brackets.  It’s similar to the old crank handle windows. I need to have some type of exhaust fan for the encaustic fumes. Does anyone know of a portable unit that will work in this type of basement that does not need a hole in the wall for the exhaust fan? The walls are thick concrete so I can’t put a hole in it. I can run a hose to the window but that is about all I can do with that size window. I do have…See More

Just a little welcome to all our new members of Encaustic art group and a re-hello to old members.
How are you all going with your encaustic journey.Let em know what is going on with your work. I am happy to answer any questions on waxing or to debate anything with you.
If you have found any encaustic artists that you would like to share with us all that would also be fab.
I am really keen to see members work and really get this group going a bit more. Tell me what you want to see in here. Or any new ideas that would be good for our group, which is now topping 127 members.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
