What can I get from Mexico that I would love?

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 4:33pm 7 Comments

My family (the child bride and the heiress) have abandoned me for a three week visit to Mexico and California. Myself and the dog (the feisty miniature fox terrier Jasmine) are guarding the house and keeping a few pesos dribbling into the bank account.

My question is this... what can my darlings get for me in Mexico that I cannot get here . I am talking about items for my assemblage of a non-organic nature. That means no wood, straw, skin, claw, bone, food etc. becasue of Aussie…

Klimt and Schiele for real...

Posted on July 4, 2011 at 1:52pm 8 Comments

Just back home in Brisbane after a weekend in Melbourne... caught the Tutunkhamun exhibition, the "Rock of Ages" stage musical and an exhibition on Viennese art and design around the turn of the 19th century.

Among other great stuff from Vienna, it was wonderful to see originals of Klimt and Schiele after looking at so many reproductions in books and on the net... Klimt was especially nice since Schiele's drawings translate pretty well in reproductions and Klimt not so well... The…

Computers... AAAAARGH... a sorry tale of woe

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 9:30am 5 Comments

So frustrated at the moment... the studio office has been in a state of utter confusion for weeks.

It is a sorry tale of woe.

My desk was starting to fall apart. The chipboard desktop and drawers were slowly turning into something resembling coarse sawdust. Why do they cut down trees and grind up the timber to make artificial timber... seems loony to me. Anyway, several metres of grey duct tape was no longer capable of preserving the desk's structural integrity.

So...…

The Big Picture in early April

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 12:49am 6 Comments

This painting was supposed to be the work that I did when I was blocked on other projects... but I have become obsessive about it and my other stuff is suffering .... i need more balance so I can get on to the other ideas I want to finish.

I have made a fair bit of progress since my last blogging about the "The Big Picture", which I am now calling an "Imaginary City" ... even though all the buildings are very real places.

Here is where it was at the time of the last entry which…

Hi Grant,

I finally found the place to leave you a comment!  Thank you for your feedback on my art drawings.  I spend all my time creating mixed media and exploring all the various techniques, but seldom draw, which was my first love.  Earlier this year I took a drawing class from a very talented local artist and explored pastels and drawing figures - it was great fun!

Thanks for your comments Grant, re the barbed wire, I work in the town but live on the coast in the country side so I took a walk the other evening an pulled off the old rusty barbed wire from fence posts. These were just short lengths that were left where new barbed wire had replaced the old rusty stuff. I now have a little store for future use.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
