"Thank you Jan. The mind may be a good  place to start, but I think someone here has a Picasso quote that says "inspiration comes while you are working". :O) Just saying. I'd love to see what's in your head for this challenge"

"Absolutely fantastic. I would have thought Kandinsky painted it himself!  They say it take two artists to paint a painting, one to paint it and another to to know when to stop."

"Thanks Lea. I never saw the clown in the picture. I guess it's because I was thinking abstractly of only color and shapes. I'll have to work to get that images out of my mind now! "

Passages

Posted on September 27, 2010 at 4:24am 4 Comments

Gail Sheely wrote a bestselling book over 30 years ago, probably before most of you were born, titled Passages. It is about the passages we go through in life and it remains an important book today. When I read the email from Gary about his decision to, more or less, go on a sabbatical, ‘cut the strings that bind’, I thought of this book. The passages Gail Sheely writes about may not be the same, but we do have passages in our life. The point I am trying to make is that most of… Continue

Putting My House in Order

Posted on August 18, 2010 at 2:26am 4 Comments

It has been awhile since I posted a blog, but I felt I needed to get back to it again. As one of the senior members and I am speaking of age,(I may be the oldest), I have many personal issues that slow me down. It is important to me to stay a member in good standing as the inspiration from LMM, especially since Gary returned from Australia, keeps me going.

Renewal

Posted on May 1, 2010 at 4:37am 0 Comments

For me spring is a time for renewal. A time to clean out the cobwebs of winter, plant seeds and get my house in order. It is also a good time to put my business affairs in order. With my taxes filed, next on my list was to finish my new website. My old web host only allowed me a small amount of space and I had to use their templates. I tried to modify them to suit my needs for almost 6 months and finally gave up. I changed hosts with unlimited space and the option to create my own site. I'm not… Continue

Another New Year

Posted on January 2, 2010 at 6:13am 1 Comment

Every year, filled with hope, I make my list of resolutions; tuck the list away, only to forget about it. It is as if just making the list would fulfill it. A wise person said, “The road to failure is paved with good intentions”. Although I do not consider myself a failure, I am often disappointed when I look at my list at the end of the year. I rationalize that maybe I set the bar too high, or that some other situation over shadowed everything, ie, the economy, family issues and health. Truth… Continue

Happy Holidays Everyone

Posted on December 19, 2009 at 4:00am 6 Comments

Every year I have created my own Christmas cards. With the exception of a few I've made for card exchanges the past two years I've gone digital using an original watercolor as the subject. I'm still experimenting and dealing with a steep learning curve, but the process fascinates me. This year's video required three software programs to get the effect I wanted. I'm sure there is a high end pro program that would do it all, but my budget and possibly my PC makes that difficult to acquire. With… Continue

Hi Eva,

Thanks for your payment and registration for the Altered Book Projects Class. As I said, the course won't begin until the 16th of May (which gives you time to get some of the materials for the course) The material list is found on the same page where you signed up under 'Classes'. If you have any questions about the materials list let me know! I will be contacting you again when I am ready to open the class.

Thanks again

Gary

Eva - I long for positive criticism as I often don't have the eye for the detail that would make it a real show piece. I sent you a separate e-mail because I was sooo please that you cared enough to really point out things to me. I am so grateful to have expert guidance. Thank you again

Just a little welcome to all our new members of Encaustic art group and a re-hello to old members.
How are you all going with your encaustic journey.Let em know what is going on with your work. I am happy to answer any questions on waxing or to debate anything with you.
If you have found any encaustic artists that you would like to share with us all that would also be fab.
I am really keen to see members work and really get this group going a bit more. Tell me what you want to see in here. Or any new ideas that would be good for our group, which is now topping 127 members.

You're welcome, Eva. You deserve the credit. Your remark got me thinking along those lines. I'm glad that you liked the result.

Headstrongus Operatorus— the Latin term for your camera problem. lol

I have not heard of MOD files. It's sometimes difficult to change to a new program or way of doing things. I use an Apple at home and find Windows so needlessly complicated. However I must use it at work and so adapt. Grudgingly. :-)

You're a chronic returner-taker-backer, aren't you? lol

Thank you, Eva, for the compliment. I did it. I turned my response into a blog post and even gave you credit for inspiration!

How is it going with the camcorder?

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIc02QBihJQ&feature=share&list=UUM6N5AOYoyg6eAkbcDWpNFg

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
