Other Means for Limiting Photo Storage Space???

Posted on September 20, 2010 at 10:18am 6 Comments

Hello, First of all, I would like to thank my friends from the site for keeping in touch with me, and encouraging me to keep posting here... probably because of my absense over the summer. I´ve done a ton of gardenng and such and have been quite busy, but honestly I have been away also because for me the 100 kb per picture limit has been a bit dtoublesome. My habit tends to be to post an entire series and then not post again for awhile until I have something new... so the sizing each picture… Continue

Can Anyone Help Me Scan Some Bugs?

Posted on April 17, 2010 at 2:43pm 8 Comments

I like to do crazy things with color, contrast, etc with a very particular subject... bugs etc. squished on the scanner with my hand. I really have alot of fun with my technique, but I only find so many kinds of bugs around here. If you´re up to it, can you scan a few unique insects, spiders, etc from your area and send me the scans so I can work with them? Most of mine are at 800 dpi for good resolution. If there is a brave soul who could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Just send me… Continue

I didn't know that about Toads Chris...thanks for the info...he moves around to different plant pots and if I go out the door really late I'm careful as he is right at the door .

If you like -heres another idea...(as a collaborative project) why not superimpose some of your more organic ideas onto a couple of my pieces? See what happens? its a way of maximising resources-I dont have to go looking for bugs to scan, you dont have to rely on computergenerated art...just a thought.

Hi Chris,

Forget the items i mentioned-they were only really ideas for extreme interpretations, but overall, the point i'd make is you have loads of things you can explore with the whole bug idea.I mean, Damien Hirst tried an experiment with a cows head, which as an art piece, he allowed to rot, with all the attendant mess. Now for me, I don't particularly think its beautiful, even if the art glitterati think its art. However, what you do has a beauty that CAN be appreciated -I think despite the death processes the end result can be appreciatiated, and I just wondered how far the imagination might soar with the use of various insects.Have you ever come across Gary Larson's "The Far Side?" - that could give you some ideas too.

In the meantime Mo was expressing interest in the 'challenge' ( i'd referred to this when I was chatting with her) - so next time you 2 chat, perhaps you can fwd this entire thread to her?

Other ideas -how about large? For example, a 3ft blue wasp might give people a thing to think about.
Or a hybrid -eg a wasps head on a worm. Imagine the fun creating newly extinct creatures!

I havent got round to scanner art (yet) although I can see the possibilities.

My current interests in all things Quantum are keeping me fully occupied-as for new bits-each piece takes a fair amount of time to do, and I have a few works in progress -but it will be another month or so before I post any more images -unless I just do one at a time, in which case there might be one up in a week or so.

How about slow motion filming/timelapse/etc...possibilities to add a 4th dimension to your exciting work.

OK, thats enough ideas from me for the time being. Catch you laters...

Oh, just a thought.

I imagine that bugs have brains. I don't know whether they have an imagination. This is another area to explore.
There relationship to us.

" Oh I see the humans have tried the old jam in the water trick ...again" (Wasps)
"I hate these bloody eggshell obstacle courses" snails and slugs.

" It's been a hard days night, an I been workin, like a worm. (Beetles.)

Well, everyone knows logs dont work.

Except in art, cabins, that kind of thing.

Just a thought. Mind how you go!

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
