My degree in Fine Art

Posted on October 16, 2009 at 8:00pm 5 Comments

My materials for the first year of my degree in Fine Art arrived this week. Talk about exciting... I couldn't believe it, after all these years of would I or wouldn't I, I had finally taken the plunge. I have photos of the box of materials on my blog. Now I have to set about getting stuck into the course. There will be elements of it I won't enjoy, all the notetaking and the constantly having to evidence stuff, but I will… Continue

Possible books for Halloween

Posted on October 7, 2009 at 3:36am 0 Comments

I couldn't figure out where to put this post, so decided to add it as a blog post.

Possible books to read for Halloween.

There are some obvious choices, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, an excellent book and quite different from the film portrayals. I "had" to read it as part of a course I was doing, I was so glad I did.

Dracula by Bram Stoker, an oldie but goodie.

The Book of Lost Things… Continue

Keeping up when life seems to be travelling at the speed of light!

I keep forgetting I can put blog posts here. I have my own blog which I am shameful of as I don't upload to it as often as I feel I should. I seem to have courses coming out of my ears, I am on information overload, and yet I am loving every single minute of it. Lots of groups I belong to are following the theme of Halloween, which is something I have not really liked much in the past before. For me in the UK, it represents stores stocking lots of tacky plastic stuff in orange and black, and… Continue

Well I have been encouraged to make a start and 99 Rooms!

I feel at times abit overwhelmed here in the presence of so many talented artists. I still struggle to think of myself in those terms, although I find myself increasingly thinking about art as I go to sleep and its frequently my first thoughts of the day. I create many images in my head, sorting out the composition, the colours, what I am trying to say, only to find it never finds its way out of my head and onto the page or canvas.

I have been playing around with wall filler and… Continue

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
