Making time for Art

Posted on October 1, 2010 at 12:44am 3 Comments

I have been finding myself with less and less time for "me" art. It is really hard to motivate yourself when 1) you are tired and 2) when you do attempt to create something, it turns out so awful that you ask yourself why you even bothered in the first place.

I need to find a way past the dissatisfaction stage and start to be happy with what I make, since I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement. Too bad my Muse thinks otherwise O_o Why are you punishing me Muse!?

Artistic Respect

I was thinking about art and respect today: As Artists we seem to rememebr the non-positive comments people make on our art, yet we never remember the positive ones. Why is that?

I think maybe it is because the non-positive remarks are so specific, and the positive ones are NOT. If someone doesn't like something they usually say why "Oh, I don't like bright color" "The work feels cartoonish." But the positive remarks are non-specific. "Hey that's awesome!" or "I really like that" I am… Continue

Hi Andrea, just watched all your videos on youtube and have to say great job! Each one had me wanting more.....and I love the music you had in each of them. My favorite was the Gothic Arch, very nicely done. I also had not heard of the magazine Art Trader so will be checking that out also. I love being able to learn new things from fellow ning friends. Look forward to see more from you.

A fire faerie would be perfect!

The Lottery drawing will be on the 1st of August, so, I'll tell the winner to contact you with her/his mailing info.

Thanks so much for making a prize for the lottery! Once you have it finished, go ahead and post it in the group, either as a new Discussion, or as a reply to the July Challenges Discussion.

You are such a gem (^_^)

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
