Mixed Media on OHP Vilm
I've been using Transparency OHP film for a few months now as some of you might notice. Then, one sunny morning in the woods... ok wrong story. haha. I stumbled upon those PVC sheets about .20mm thick(!) used as folder cover. Definitely thicker than the OHP film. Bought a stack. That became a support for this happy experiment. I love buying markers in art supplies shops - i guess like Nikko would with brushes at Art stores :) So name the colour, i think, i have them lying around my desk. Yes, even pink and magenta. I had to reassure my wife it is for art's sake. ;-) Really a lot of doodles using grey, black, white, gold marker pens. It's so interesting when the pen makes a puddle if you press longer on the sheet, then you grab whatever is in front of you (paperclip, bbq stick, etc) to extend the mark. A spatter of liquid acrylic here. Some el chepo gouche paint. I would occasionally flip the sheet to see what's happening under. Remember, I draw/paint/ mess up the top knowing that will be the under part later. For this piece, I forego my usual spray paint for thick acrylic that I just spread using a brayer. Sandra H. would be proud of me.. I've graduated calling it the roller thingamajig.
The title .... I was digging deep into my geekiness and thought this one felt like a binary code gone awry. And that my friends is how to make 'this'. Thanks!

Comment by Nikko Miladinovich on May 19, 2012 at 5:58am Awesome work Darwin.
Quick update. I think I finally reached critical mass with the brushes for the time being. On several occasions, while looking for a particular brush, I took note of the fact that I probably have as many brushes that have yet to be used, as ones I have actually used. Maybe I'll have to make a "try 1 new brush every day, or week, rule.lol

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.
And this is the completed screen ready for printing. I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
