Janelle , its mo on mary's laptop. We are together in washington at `diana quinns house. if you want to use the clear shellac you can add the jacquard pearlescent pigments to it  to make a white shellac burn . i did try white  pigment powder but it wasn't as good as the pearlescent ones. graphite powder works god alo and the black pigments also.

If I was you I would ask Mo. I don't make encaustic works, I'm afraid!

Thanks Mary! I have tried a shallac burn. But have only used the amber colored shellac. I'm interested in trying it with other colors. What sort of pigment do you mix with the clear shellac? I have some from earthpigments.com. Do you think they will work?

I have joined the encaustic group. I'm getting a lot out of it!

Really good result for early efforts - amazing. One way Mo, our resident encaustic queen here on LMM, gets the splash effect is by using clear shellac mixed with white pigment which she then burns back. Have you joined the encaustic group? I am sure you will find lots of help and like minded artists there.

Thank you all!  I'm really still learning about encaustic and have only finished a few paintings. So getting good feedback is a huge confidence booster!

I'm thinking I want to add more texture to the whole thing. I want to waves to the blue. And somehow get more "splash" texture in the white. I'm not sure about the sand portion....  Any suggestions?

I'm excited to get back to working on it, but I have to wait until my new wax shippment comes in to do more work.

Really nice progress so far, love the way you used the driftwood.

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
