Gary's Matchbox Challenge

The Challenge

The object of this challenge is to take an ordinary box of matches and transform it into an artwork.

So if your an assemblage artist you might like to create an assemblage, if your a painter you might like to paint and decorate the exterior, if your a scrapper, you might want to embellish your matchbox with lace and shit and crap he he (Don't judge) and if your a video installation artist you might want to create an interesting arty video using matchboxes.

There is no time limit or deadline for this challenge! How creative can you be? I will be posting your finished results randomly on the front page:)

Oh, how cool!
I just noticed this challenge off to the right on the main page. After seeing the results of the sardine can challenge I am kicking myself for not entering it! So I will definately try this one! Thanks and keep the challenges coming! They are so fun!

That would be a whole new 'body' of work but it would add to the (de)composition... (sorry, can't help myself)

Margo, no, I sculpted it, he's one of a kind. It took about 3 weeks but just a little here and there, didn't really take too long, he came together really well

Did you mold that face, Pam???  The whole thing is wild!  It must have taken a long time to do it.

Yes, the middle of the box was the part i meant so that explains it. Thanks for the link, it will be my next stop. It's not how much your stuff costs (most of mine is free) it's what you do with it and you certainly 'do' very well.

The glue part is only in the middle of the box not on the frame, if thats what you are asking. The frame is just a cheap plastic frame from Micheals that I added some paint too. And the outside is just paint, made that way with my artistic talent, lol. My blog has how to do the paint and Glue technique http://www.themixedmedia.com/p/technieques.html

Madmac, i love the detail and your colour combinations are so rich and gorgeous. There is real depth to it too - is that the glue coming into play? You've made me want to go and do another one!

Jules, this is marvelous! I would love to see a tutorial on your technique with the glue and paint.

Here's my matchbox. The frame was .80 cents and altered by me, the middle frame is a sticker from the dollar store I cut out the middle part, it is a metallic sticker that I added some paint to, and the inside is my technique using glue and paint. This is my first challenge I have ever participated in and I hope to do more, I had a lot of fun doing it, and will do more matchboxes as well.
