I'm very new to encaustic painting. These are my first finished (I think) pieces. I'm to a point where I'm not sure if I should keep going or stop. What do you think? Do these paintings need something else? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Hey Janelle,

Have you posted these in the Encaustic Group? They might be better at suggesting ideas!  The panel of 3 are wonderful, great colour combos...for me they do need something else, maybe an image transfer of some description.

I think the 2nd work turned out great..im not sure if you need to do anything with it;)

Hi Gary,

I have posted them in the encaustic group and have gotten some good feedback.

I agree the 3 panels need something else. I just haven't found the right thing yet....

Thanks for your comments!

Janelle

I love the colours on the first triptych, although the 3th one could use a little more contrast, compared to the other 2 it has a bit more blended colours. A little yellow and red here and there should do the trick. Other than that I cannot think of anything else, they all look wonderfull, I LOVE that tree!!!

Thanks for your comments Lydia. I agree the 3rd panel doesn't look as contrasty as the other two. Although some of the depth didn't photograph well.

Love the tree.  I wouldn't change anything there.  I agree with Lydia, that the third one of the three panels need a little more contrast in color.  Love the textures by the way.
Thanks Louise!

i think that the tree turned out great too

the first three - i know it's hard to take good photos of encaustic pieces-- they look more like really interesting backgrounds for something else (ie embed some things, or an image transfer, or add more texture)

Thanks for your feedback Diana. Yes, I agree they need something else. What they need...I don't know. I've tried to embed things in wax and haven't had much luck. I do like the look of image transfers. I might try that.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
