Hold on to your lens caps folks, we are going to try something different this month in the photo challenge.  It is a challenge that requires TWO images. The idea is to take a photo of an image and then in a second photo abstract the original.  The actual object in the photo can be of anything you like. We are looking at figurative painting this month in the Picasso challenge so if you like you could tie into that theme and take a body part shot (no blatant nudity please). You could also make use of a  mannequin or statue ,whatever inspires you is cool, it doesn't have to be a body shot. The term Figurative actually applies to any object not just the human form, as is commonly thought, The exercise is mainly an exploration of the contrast between realism and abstraction, allowing for two diversely opposed perceptions of the same object.

Ways to abstract the second image could be by such means as:

-photoshop (ie alter colour, focus, saturations, cropping etc…)
- take a second shot but alter angle, lighting or distance  (ie macro shot)

Go wild. When you post your results, we ask that you post both of the shots, the original one and the abstracted one. Hence the name “Take Two”.  Thanks to Nicole there is now an Image Editor tab on the header of the site that some of you may want to play with for this challenge. Have fun!!!!

Shot One : Roman statue

Shot Two: A cropped version of the same photo with the colour altered. I really love the sculpted folds in the "fabric". To me that is the real genius of these ancient statues, not so much the facial features.

Aha! THis should be fun!
Ok this is day two of the challenge and I am falling for this hook line and sinker. I could spend all day doing this...
Here is the original photo that I took yesterday a couple of doors away from the Royal Academy (Van Gogh exhibition :-))

Then I did this one, but thought it's "not very abstract" so I carried on.
Then the floodgates opened...
This has been so much fun and after having seen all of those wonderful Van Goghs these photos make me want to get my oil paints out and have a go at painting one of these...I like the idea of the face looking down on me.
Wow, fantastic job Danielle!!!!! They are all super cool. I really like the first altered version, it has a wonderful grainy, ghostly feel to it. Ya, get those oil paints out!!!! Hope you had a great time at the Van Gogh exhibit.
Go Dan!! How cool are these - not only do they fit this challenge some could be very Picasso!
diana, loving these. the original and no. 1, 3, 5 and 7 of take two are my favs! no. 5 of the 'dots' would make great background paper for some collage!
This is a pic taken of my daughters eye then cropped in Picasa and played with in photo impressions.

OMG, awesome Becky! Those are wild. Your daughter's eye is beautiful. The swirly one is wicked and I love the one that looks like a negative with the white lashes.
What a beautiful eye to work on! I like the swirly one the best, very striking. The negative one is really cool too.
wow, great job love the swirly eye
what a beautiful eye! i especially lov the first take two!

This is a trash photo but I liked the body position of Meredith.I embraced a few Picasso elements:
-the use of strong line
-the seeming unaware and candid nature of the subject
-and the obvious:blue.
I'm not so slick at computer enhancing ...I like to keep my photos "as is" and I don't have real photo shop, just some free photo editor that came on my lap top! This was fun though. In the time that it took to turn this into a fake "painting" I could have done a real one! -H.

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
