An easel is a great painting instrument but over the years I have found it restricting, unless you can fork out several hundred dollars for those top of the line easels. So, what did I do? I purchased pegboards! They're cheap, sturdy, great for wall storage, organizational purposes, and most importantly...PAINTING! That's right, a gigantic 48 x 96 inch wall mounted easel that is functional and cheap. Just how cheap? All-in-all, I spent $100.00 on materials. Certainly, this type of easel has some restrictions, but I find it to be the perfect solution for triptych's, large canvases, irregular shaped canvases, etc. You can also mount brushes and other art supplies for personal convenience. When you're done with your artworks, you can also display them on the pegboard. If you have any questions, feel free to post comments. Images of the wall mounted easel are posted below...

I like it. Thanks for posting this idea!
Can you reposition the shelf when you need to?
What color did you paint the pegboard - it looks dark gray on my monitor. Did you need to use a particular type of paint?
And I love the art display above the pegboard!
Certainly! There are 3,969 available holes for any repositioning that you desire. Originally, the pegboard was just plain brown corrugated cardboard hue. I spray painted it a neutral dark grey in order to emphasize the canvases (Spray paint will not clog up the holes!). This way, I can also get a better understanding of my lights and darks when mixing and applying colours to my canvas. Finally, I sealed the spray paint with a clear spray paint coat/varnish to ensure that the front of the pegboard is waterproof and UV Ray resistant. The art display was an accident, but of a good kind : )
This is a great idea!!
Next stop...hardware store
What a smart Idea!!
Great idea Yev! I have been wanting to make a place like this in my garage so I can be out of the elements- especially the winter- and not worry about flinging paint everywhere. I like the neutral gray background- good thinking there! I know one thing I would do to the board that the canvases are on- I THINK I'd add a very small trim along that to hold the canvas from falling off? Also you could then set the canvas on top of the trim when painting the bottom and paint could flow past the bottom of the canvas instead of pooling. You can tell I do a lot of WET work. Now if I just had a space to put your great idea! MY HOUSE IS TOO SMALL!
Hey, Mo! I like the idea of the trim. Originally, I wasn't going to use wood planks at all because pegboard hangers offered just what I needed - a standing canvas and open space to paint the underside of the canvas. In other words, the pegboard hangers have two thin points of contact instead of a whole plank of wood. However, HomeDepot ran out of them, so this is my temporary solution until they order more. As for the pooling, I haven't had a chance to buy clear plastic to mount on the wall and floor. That's my next job. Trust me, if you're house is small then my room is tiny!!! They usually sell pegboard in 24" x 48" sheets. I bought four...so perhaps you can get three and mount them vertically/horizontally?
OOO- I see why you have the wood. I was thinking the hangers would be enough with two of them to hold a canvas. Guess I was right- for a change...... Good idea with the plastic too. I may have to take down (OH NO) my spray paint station/table and cover the windows in the garage (it's an old garage when they used to have metal windows!) with the peg board. I shall see which I need to most. I really need BOTH. I work like an accomplished artist that sells a lot but I'm not. I just can't seem to settle on ONE medium- if I did then I would have enough room. I just like PLAYING tooooooooo much. I should have been a chemist!
LOL! Chemist..."I wonder what will happen if I mix this wit- BOOM!" Try to think like an interior designer - space vs. function. What if you had the pegboard fold with legs from the wall and it's back side was flat with no holes? That way, you can have a spray paint station and painting station in one package. Pretty simple idea...almost like those beds that tuck into the wall, except this one is bulging out of the wall.
Good idea! Will think about it.......
is that 2 pieces of peg board? How far from the floor does it start? what is that holder /dimensions , sorry dummy here with wood skills. I think I can screw peg board to my garage dry wall wall ok but after that i am lost. are those special hooks ? sorry thanks

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
