Hello LMM friends!
I will meet with an international musician who wants my art on is guitar. My art is best done on a canvas or lighter paper to achieve its results then it could be put on his guitar. Has anyone ever collaged onto this type of surface? First thought I could do this for him then maybe I thought that I would just do the art and he could have someone adhere it onto the guitar. Any ideas how this could be done or comments?
Thanks Bronwyn, Would be great to know who has done any type of Collage work on a guitar or that kind of surface!
Okay, I'm not sure if this is the person I was thinking of, but here's the link to her profile: http://lovingmixedmedia.com/profile/nursebrandstatt. Also, check this link out... it might help http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/mat.htm
Thanks Bronwyn,, will check it out!
well... one question is --- what does he want to do with his guitar? does he want to play it? perform with it? that makes a big difference. I wouldn't want paper on a guitar i'm going to perform with. you have to be careful -- even with varnish--- because it can change the instrument's tone.
that's the first question.
If he is not going to play the guitar, then you're free to do whatever you want with it.
I will ask as I do think that he wants to use it for his band. May have to paint directly on it if that is the case. thanks for the response, Diana!
even paint can change the tone of a guitar's soundboard, so you might want to think about painting the sides and back before you paint the front. I know someone who paints using tinted VARNISH-- let me see if i can find it. Is this a very good guitar with value that he wants to keep? because if it is, it will lose value.
lots of questions.
I will have to ask him some questions when he comes over. I do not want to change the sound of his guitar that is for sure. I also do not want to paint with varnish. The idea of breathing varnish for days at a time is not something that I want to do to my lungs. I did see the project guitar but I guess that was a guitar that was just for show and not for playing as the art is all over it and you said that would change the sound. Thanks for all the comments and the sites. Diana!
