a friend of mine had suggested this technique to me about a week ago:  working FLUIDLY.  (essentially creating small pools of water on your paper and using watercolor pencils allowing the color to bleed at will).

so at first, i can honestly say i HATED it.  REALLY.  just the idea of NOT being in control of my own Creation ignited this Rage deep down inside (wondering what that says about me, hehe).  in addition to the fact that when i work, i work fast and furious so much of the time.  NOT AN OPTION with this process.  you are at the complete mercy of the elements.  ughhhhhhhh

so after my first attempt, i was ready to say, been there, done that, NOT interested.  BUT.....(and this pains me to admit) this technique began HAUNTING me...calling me from one of those dark corners of my Being.  and yes i ignored it for awhile, but we all know that was only gonna last so long.

finally, i decided the only way to SHUT THOSE voices up inside was to walk head first into yet another UNKNOWN part of my Self via this technique.  ya following me?

so after numerous attempts i am happy to share i FINALLY created something i am willing to share.  IN FACT, share HERE under THIS forum (i am not a big fan of others critiquing my work, hehe).

so, i give you all 'lionESS" and honestly look forward to seeing what you all think.  to me this piece is Finished and is COMPLETELY different from anything i have done to date.

thanks everyone!

I like your new technique. This painting is in fact different from your previous work. What i like is that it is you, your work but presented in the new dimention :) When I paint I love using wash and let the paint as you said "bleed at will" it gives me a lot of fun and has nice effect on the end. So congratulations Loryn and I hope to see more stuff like this from you :)
thanks Murin!!! xo
I like it Loryn...isn't it kind of fun to just see what happens as it dries? I love to work that way, although i too am REALLY impatient!

thanks Tammy!!!  xo

Great results! Reminds me a little bit of the story of Picasso's wine stained cafe napkin drawing. The story goes that Picasso was sitting in a Paris café when an admirer approached and asked if he would do a quick sketch on a paper napkin. Picasso politely agreed, swiftly executed the work, and handed back the napkin — but not before asking for a rather significant amount of money. The admirer was shocked: “How can you ask for so much? It took you a minute to draw this!” “No”, Picasso replied, “It took me 40 years”

i LOVE that story!!! (i also love Picasso) hehe

I really do like this ... I am useing this technique too, on canvas. Its different, take a longer time to dry, and you have to use some acrylicmedium in the water, but its fun to try.
thanks Ellinor!
I think the "bleeding" colors add yet another dimension to these superb faces...it makes them even more emotive if that is possible.  I think it's a fantastic technique.
Hey! I left a message here before but it appears that yet again I have forgotten to Add Reply - duh!  I would love to see you continue to explore this technique Loryn - it is so much fun! I love doing this myself and to sit there while colours run together and do their own thing is always such a pleasant surprise. You could also use gouache, watercolour, acrylic etc....Maybe even drop a bit of metho (denatured alcohol) and watch what that does too....Could even do all out abstract if you want!  Have fun!!! :)
thanks Sandra!!!  i miss you!

HERE ARE 2 LINKS to TWO of my youtube videos talking and demonstrating about this amazing product:

So once i have my image printed onto transparency film, I take my Ezscreen silk screen which has been coated in light sensitive emulsion (These sheets come pre-coated so they are ready to use). Place it onto a black board, then place the transparency image on top (this part needs to be done in a dark room with no direct sunlight). I take it outside and expose it for 1 minute and 40 seconds (but time varies depending on time of day and strength of sunlight). After i have exposed the image i place it into a tub of water for around 5 - 8 minutes. Then i rinse the screen out under fast running water until the unexposed area (the black) washes away. I then expose the screen to the sun for a further 20mins to completely harden the light sensitive emulsion.

And this is the completed screen ready for printing.  I simply use an old credit card to spread the ink over the screen making sure i do one complete full stroke across the screen (holding the credit card at a 45 degree angle). I immediately wash the screen out under fast flowing water and pat dry. I use fabric screen printing ink which washes out in water (which makes the process easy).

I love this product, their website is http://ezscreenprint.com/ (for full instructions and details on how to purchase this awesome product).
